This pizza will last for up to four days in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. For longer storage, you can freeze the pizza for up to three months. Simply cut the pizza into individual slices, and tightly wrap them in plastic wrap. After that, place them in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag. To reheat, simply defrost the pizza in the refrigerator and then microwave it or heat it up in the oven.

What Kind Of Sauce Goes On Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

Choosing your sauce is also a personal preference. So, you can use regular pizza sauce, alfredo sauce, or you can not use sauce at all.

However, I like to make it without any sauce, the provolone cheese provides enough moisture, and in combination with this delicious crust recipe, youll see how delicious a sauceless pizza can be.

Tips For The Perfect Slow Cooker Philly Cheesesteak Sandwhich:

  • Add bell peppers the last 45 minutes of cooking. If you add them earlier they will become soft and mushy.
  • The liquid from cooking left behind is delicious, try dipping your sandwich in it.
  • Lightly butter and toast your hoagie buns before adding the toppings. This adds flavor and a whole new level of the yum factor. It also helps the buns not become soggy so fast.
  • I like to cut each square of cheese in half and then place it down the entire pile of meat.
  • Try spreading a thin layer of mayonnaise on the bottom of your toasted bun, definitely delicious!

Make The White Sauce For Cheesesteak Pizza From Scratch

    Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

Even if youve never made a cheese sauce for pizza, you can pull this one off. Its really simple and takes only about 10 minutes. See the recipe video at the bottom of this page if you want me to walk you through it.

  • Roast garlic. In a small pan on medium-low heat, add olive oil and garlic. Sauté garlic about 3 minutes until translucent, stirring regularly. Remove from heat before garlic browns. Set aside.
  • Heat butter with flour. Add butter to a small sauce pan on medium heat. Once butter melts, add flour by whisking it in slowly so it doesnt clump. Cook flour and milk for about 1 minute until it turns light brown and the air smells nutty.
  • Add milk to white pizza sauce. With the sauce pan on medium heat, slowly pour cold milk into the roux, whisking as it incorporates. Turn the heat of the burner to high, and once the milk bubbles , reduce the heat to medium. Then add cooked garlic olive oil mixture to the roux. Continue to whisk ingredients as they bubble for 1 minute. Turn off the heat of the burner .
  • Add the rest of the white pizza sauce ingredients. Add seasonings to the mixture . Add parmesan cheese and whisk until combined and the sauce becomes smooth. Remove from the burner, stir in the fresh chopped parsley , and set aside while making the pizza . Or store in the refrigerator and reheat on low if making the pizza sauce more than 20 minutes in advance.
  • For more details, see this white pizza sauce recipe.

Can I Make This Ahead Of Time And Freeze For Later

Of course, you can make it into a homemade frozen pizza! In fact, when I have extra pizza crust on hand after finding it on sale, I love making up some homemade pizzas to wrap and pop into the freezer for later.

These are best prepared and baked when ready to serve. Simply prepare until you are at the step of adding to the oven to bake. Wrap the pizza in plastic wrap covering it completely, and then store flat on a shelf in your freezer for up to three months. When ready, pop into the oven at the same temperature and cook for a few minutes longer to heat through and melt the cheese.

    Can You Freeze Cheesesteak Pizza

Yes, you can freeze Philly Cheese Steak Pizza but be aware the bell peppers become a softer, funny texture. I recommend removing the bell pepper and mushrooms before freezing.

    To freeze:

  • Bake pizza according to directions.
  • Let pizza cool completely to room temperature.
  • Add pizza slices to a large freezer safe and lay flat to freeze or wrap entire pizza a few times in plastic wrap then in foil.
  • When ready to eat, bake at 450 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until heated through.

Ingredients For Philly Cheese Steak Pizza

PIZZA DOUGH: If youre a pizza purist, you can definitely make your own dough. If Im short on time I will use this no rise pizza dough recipe, or even a store bought refrigerated pizza dough. Ive also started making or buying a white whole wheat pizza dough to add a little bit of nutrition to our weekly habit.

PIZZA SAUCE: I think the only point of contention Ive seen with a Philly cheese steak pizza is what sauce is on the Philly cheesesteak pizza. Some like a cheesy alfredo Philly cheese steak pizza sauce, others go with a simple garlic butter. Honestly, I really like marinara sauce. There is so much cheese on the pizza, I dont feel like it needs a cream sauce, and I like the marinara flavor with the steak.

GOAT CHEESE: I use some big dollops of fresh chevre on the pizza because it gives some of that same creaminess you would get from a cream sauce, but with a wonderful tangy flavor. I dont recommend skipping these one, its a MUST!

MOZZARELLA, CHEDDAR, PROVOLONE, AMERICAN: Between the goat cheese, mozzarella, and cheddar, this Philly cheese steak pizza has a good variety of cheese flavors. That said, you can also swap them with your favorite cheesesteak sandwich cheeses.

Maybe sub American cheese for the cheddar , and use provolone instead of mozzarella. You could even go half mozzarella half provolone, or throw in some Swiss as well.

Which Type Of Beef Should I Use For This Philly Cheesesteak Pizza

    • My preference is to use thinly sliced ribeye steak. Oftentimes, I can find cheesesteak style thinly sliced steak in the meat section of the grocery store. If you dont have this option, you can ask the butcher to thinly slice a ribeye for you, or you could even use roast beef slices from the deli counter. There are also frozen varieties of cheesesteak-style beef.
    • Another option is to thinly slice a ribeye steak yourself. If you choose this option, stick the beef in the freezer for about 15 minutes before you attempt to slice it very thinly with a sharp knife. This will make the slicing easier. The goal is to have very thinly sliced beef so that it cooks quickly and is easier to eat on top of the pizza.
    • Good quality beef will make this recipe shine!

Stuffed Philly Cheese Steak Pizza In Steps

To Begin this recipe you will need to do some prep in advance! Begin with cooking your cheese steak. I would advise you season the meat and add Peppers, Mushrooms, and onion. You can substitute these ingredients to your liking.

    • 2 pizza doughs about a pound and 1/4 each
    • a thick round 16 inch pan greased
    • rib eyes steak shredded and grilled
    • olive oil or a cooking oil with a brush
    • oregano about 3 ounces
    • Add steak blended cheeses and more mozzarella
    • Add second dough

The diagram above pretty much explains all the steps required! What it does not show is after adding the blended cheeses to add at least another pound of mozzarella. Once you have added the second dough here is where a rolling pin will be required. If you do not have one then improvise.

Keep in mind that you can make this a stuffed white broccoli, a stuffed cacciatore. I have made them with potatoes chicken, cheddar and bacon. Its entirely in your discretion!

The stuffed pizza now needs a glaze of oil over the top. Use a brush and dip it in the oil and glaze the entire top of the pie.

Another thing to consider is to make certain to tear a small hole in the center so it can breathe.

Baking Your stuffed Philly Cheese steak pizza

So now you want to add a generous amount of pecorino Romano cheese to the top of the pie. Once thats done grab the oregano and add that to the top of the pizza as well. It should look something like this!
