Bacon Mushroom Swiss Butter Cheeseburger Recipe – Keto Diet Friendly – Low Carb

While including cheese in your keto diet can help you increase your fat intake and keep the carb count down, you do need to keep in mind that some are very high in calories.

Weight loss occurs when you are in a calorie deficit. This means the number of calories you take in per day is less than the number that you burn.

But, it can be effortless to go over your calorie allowance if you include too many cheeses in your diet. Or if you dont balance it with other healthy ingredients. Plan out your meals, finding ways to pair your cheese choices accordingly.

For those on a cyclical keto diet, try your mozzarella Caprese style, pairing it with tomatoes and basil, and topping it with balsamic vinegar. Besides, this is only an option for a cyclical diet because tomatoes and balsamic vinegar are both a bit higher in carbs, according to a recent article.

You can also try eating out at a Mexican restaurant, preceding the tortillas, rice, beans, and chips, and focusing on the vegetables, meat, and cheese. For more tips on how to eat out while on the keto diet, read more in this recent article.

How To Make Swiss Cheese Shells

Make sure you have your oven preheated fully to 375 F. I used two baking sheets so I could get all my cheese cooked at once. For ease with this recipe, I decided to just use deli Swiss that was pre-sliced from the meat counter but you could also use fresh grated shredded Swiss cheese instead.

Place the cheese slices spaced out onto a parchment covered pan. Bake for 6-7 minutes until the edges look slightly browned and the middle is very bubbly. The trick to making these work is to let them cool for 1-2 minutes before forming into cups.

Things to note-

  • Baked cheese is very greasy
  • You still need to use cooking spray on the bottom of your muffin tin just in case
  • Use a spatula to help you remove the cheese shell off the pan
  • Work quickly and efficiently so the cheese hardens on the muffin tin

I used an inverted muffin tin and layered two slices of Swiss over the inverted muffin cup. This Helped make sure the holes in the Swiss were all covered, but you would probably not have to do this with shredded cheese.

Use your hands to form the cheese shell around the cup or use a second greased muffin tin to push over the top to help them form. Let them cool for about 15 minutes so they retain their shape and then pop them off gently and place on the inside of the tin to build them.

What If I Am Lactose Intolerant

Swiss Crunchy Cheese Crisps, Made with 100% All Natural ...

Fortunately, the amount of Lactose that is found in certain dairyproducts, isnt present in a large assortment of cheeses. In general, cheesethat is aged will often have much less lactose in comparison to those which arefresher.

The first thing to look for on any cheese label, if you arelactose intolerant, is the amount of sugar listed. Sugar is found in lactose,so if there is a higher sugar content, then those are cheeses you may want to avoid. For example, cheddar only has .2 grams of sugar whereas feta has closer to 6 grams.Other cheeses that have .5 grams of sugar or less are, Parmesan and Swiss.

Still hesitant about eating cheese? Try the fantastic,protein-heavy, non cheese, cheese replacement: Cashew Cheese

With only 3 grams of carbs, per one serving , cashew cheese is a great lactose-free substitute! It is also very easy to make at home. Using a food processor, create a texture that lies somewhere between butter and hummus. If you are struggling with consistency, definitely add some ghee to the mix for smoothness.

Its protein content also holds up to most all dairy cheeses, at anaverage of 7- 8 grams of protein per ounce.

This rich, nutty cheese can work a base spread to which you canadd an array of herbs and spices. It pairs especially well with keto-friendlyvegetables such as zucchini and summer squash. Feeling cozy? Curl up with ateaspoon of this in your bailey or decaf coffee.

    Just As Good Than Bacon

Honestly, the best parts of the keto diet are the snacks. Sure, when youre on the ketogenic diet a meal plan that requires high-fat, moderate proteins, and limited carbs youre supposedly meant to stray away from indulgent treats. Although debated, to ideally achieve ketosis, youre only allotted 20-40 grams of carbs per day.

You may be wondering what snacks can actually be good and light on the carbs. Where are chips and crackers? Where are the cookies? You might miss them at first, but then youll realize that you can shovel baked cheese crisps hand over fist into your mouth, and you will quickly forget all about them. What other diet allows you to eat globs of peanut butter by the spoon and call that a snack? Or devour sizzling strips of bacon as a form of replenishing your body?

Whatever the craving, sweet or savory, meaty or nutty, here are some go-to treats that are keto-friendly for when youre having a snack attack.

Some Dairy Products Can Raise Insulin Levels

Of the three macronutrients protein, carbs, and fat carbs have been shown to raise blood sugar levels the most, by far.22 And when blood sugar goes up, it triggers your pancreas to release insulin.

Since lactose breaks down to glucose during digestion, consuming high-lactose dairy products can raise both blood sugar and insulin levels.

So if your goals include keeping insulin levels low, its likely best to steer clear of milk, flavored yogurt, and other types of high-lactose dairy.

However, even some keto-friendly dairy foods, such as cheese, also raise insulin levels somewhat. In this case, its not the carbs but the protein or more specifically, amino acids that cause insulin to rise.

Why does this happen? During digestion, protein is broken down into individual amino acids, which are absorbed into your bloodstream. This prompts your pancreas to release insulin, which helps the amino acids get into your muscles.

In fact, this happens with all protein foods, although to a greater extent with some than others. For instance, hard cheese raises insulin more than eggs but less than fish and beef. Yet all four of these protein foods raise insulin far less than carb-containing foods.23

Additionally, the whey protein in dairy is absorbed more rapidly than the casein.24 Therefore, consuming whey-containing dairy products may raise blood insulin levels more quickly than fermented dairy products that no longer contain whey.25
