Make Cheese Dip With Any Type Of American Cheese

Theres yellow, orange, and white queso, depending on the type of cheese you use. Whatever its color, queso can be prepared with green chiles or jalapenos . It may also be made a little spicier with a dash of chili powder or cumin.

While this white Mexican cheese dip is great just by itself, you may want to make it even more delicious by adding a topping of fresh pico de gallo. If youre reheating your dip, add the pico de gallo after the reheating. If you add it before, your dip may become watery.

What Milk To Use

Evaporated milk is the best choice because is has the least amount of water.

You can use milk, water, half and half, or evaporated milk to melt the cheese but the more water in the liquid the more likely it will separate.

Restaurant style queso dip is SUPER easy to make at home with just a handful of ingredients. Skip the trip to the Mexican restaurant and make your favorite cheese dip at home!

Im sure Im not the only person out there who is always looking for the ever elusive queso dip that we all love from our local Mexican restaurants. As far as the easy options go in order to make it at home, there are two typical options: the jarred stuff and the block stuff to mix with salsa or Rotel.

But you know what? This homemade version isnt any more difficult than making queso dip with block cheese and in my opinion , its 100x better than either the block cheese version or the quick and dirty jarred stuff.

A quick sauté of some diced onions and fresh pepper, melt in some shredded cheese then add some cream, tomato, and cilantro and youve got homemade restaurant style queso dip!

The key to this queso recipe is the addition of deli-sliced American cheese . American cheese melts amazingly and because of this, its the key ingredient in my Panera mac and cheese recipe as well!

I also threw in some pepper Jack and provolone partly because they both melt really well but mostly because I didnt have enough American in the house when I made this on a whim last weekend. My modifications to the original recipe are below.

And wouldnt this spicy queso dip be an awesome way to make homemade cheese fries as well? Or as a cheese dip for soft pretzel bites?? You bet!

How To Make White Cheese Dip

For a quick guideline, watch the video tutorial attached to the recipe card. The general steps are as follows:

  • Cut the block of American cheese into cubes. Microwave cheese with milk for 5 minutes on high, stirring every 1 minute.
  • Remove bowl from the microwave and stir in the chiles and jalepeños.
  • Serve immediately by dipping tortillas or drizzling over your Mexican dish. Or transfer to small crock pot to keep warm during a party.
  • You will love how easy this recipe is, especially because you do not shred the cheese and you can serve it in the bowl in which it was prepared. Only one dirty dish!

    Serving And Storage Tips

Authentic Mexican Restaurant Style Queso Cheese Dip

Serve: The cheese dip will harden as it cools. It is best to serve directly from a skillet or keep it warm in a mini-crock pot. If it does harden, reheat in 30 second intervals to make it creamy and smooth again.

White queso dip is traditionally served with tortilla chips, but there are plenty of options to suit your personal preference or dietary restrictions:

PRO TIP: A mini crock pot like this is perfect for keeping dips just the right temperature to keep them melty and smooth! Perfect for parties or enjoying snacking and dips.

Store Leftovers: Store leftover dip in the refrigerator in an air-tight container. I would say it lasts about a week, but we always seem to gobble it down. Its easiest to spoon out how much you want and reheat in the microwave in 15-30 second intervals depending on volume. If you reheat too often, the cheese can turn hard but 1-2 times should be fine.

To make white queso dip, start by heating a large non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add the white American cheese and the half and half. Stir until the cheese is melted.

Add the pickled jalapeno juice, pickled jalapenos, onion powder, garlic powder, and ground cumin. Stir to mix. Taste using the tortilla chips youll be serving it with, and then adjust the salt from there. Its important to taste it with the tortilla chips because a little salt goes a long way, and whether or not you need any salt is definitely affected by how salty your chips are. What Is Cumin Used For

If you are making Indian Curries, cumin is a staple spice in most of these recipes. It also works great in a lot of rice dishes. We use it in a lot of our stew, soups, barbecue sauces, and chili recipes.

When cooking with Cumin it is best to start off with a little. If used too much it can take over the dish. You can always add more if you need to.

Queso Blanco Mexican White Cheese Dip

    Ingredients

1 cup monterey jack cheese or 1 cup asadero cheese or 1 cup chihuahua cheese, shredded fine

    4 ounces green chilies

    1. Put all ingredients in a double boiler and heat on medium.

    2. Cook until melted and well blended, stirring occasionally.

    3. Serve with fresh tostadas or hot flour tortillas.

The type of cheese used in queso dip is always the biggest source of argument among chefs. While the flavor of monterey jack is typically considered paramount, its an American cheese so it is not considered authentic.

However you choose to make your queso, it is important that you keep it heated while guests indulge. The queso will start to solidify when left to rest, so its a good idea to serve it in a crockpot or use a warming tray. If you have a candle heater or coffee warmer lying around, these work great for keeping your serving dish warm!

    Best Substitute For Cumin:

We have all been there when we are making a recipe and we think we have all the ingredients on hand. I tried to make sure that I always have Cumin on hand because it is great in a lot of recipes that I make.

Its the complimentary cheese sauce that they serve with the chips and salsa that I am referencing.

I think we are pretty spoiled in Oklahoma since most of the Mexican restaurants around here serve the queso with the set up! Does your Mexican restaurant serve it free? Ive been known to order just what they call the set up because this cheese with the chips is like a meal on its own.

My family just calls this free cheese and other than Oklahoma, I havent seen it in any other states that Ive visited. I started working on this recipe around 14 years ago because the restaurants in Texas at that time did not serve this type of queso. Dont get me wrong, Ive never met a cheese sauce I didnt like, but none compared to my favorite.

Mexican Restaurant Style White Cheese (Queso) Dip â Delish Club

What is Oaxaca cheese dip? As its name suggests, it is a dip sauce made from Oaxaca cheese. You might wonder, what is Oaxaca cheese anyway? It is a Mexican-born cheese, coming long way from Oaxaca County in the southern Mexico. Its white color and semi-hard texture makes it perfect to make it as a queso dip, as it also has similar texture like mozzarella string cheese. Oftentimes, Oaxaca cheese is interchanged with asadero cheese. However, Oaxaca is different as it got more moisture.

As we know, Oaxaca cheese is often used in many Mexican cuisines, like in quesadillas or empanadas. In both delicacies, Oaxaca cheese is melted and is combined with other ingredients, such as squash flowers and huitlacoche. You can make Oaxaca cheese dip in less than 30 minutes. Just make sure these ingredients are ready, and you are good to go. Here is the recipe.

    • 10 ounces of Oaxaca cheese
    • 4.5 ounces of chopped green chilies
    • ¾ cups of milk or half & half
    • 2 ripe tomatoes, small diced
    • ¼ cup of jalapeno, chopped
    • ¼ cup of chopped cilantro

    Cooking Instructions:

  • Firstly, break up Oaxaca cheese and place it on your saucepan/skillet. Make sure to use low heat.
  • After that, add ¾ cup of milk . Heat it and have the cheese melted. You will need to do occasional stirring to avoid making clump and crust which is a bit hard to clean once it sticks on your kitchenware. Combine the two ingredients and mix it until it smoothly thickens.
