How To Make It And The Tradeoff
This cheese sauce is so quick and simple, its perfect for weeknights or when youre cooking meals with lots of components. There is a bit of a tradeoff in texture, but to us its well worth it! Heres what to know about the process:
- Heat the milk, then gradually add the cheese. Keep adding small handfuls of cheese until it comes together into a smooth sauce, stirring constantly.
- The sauce is slightly less stretchy than a sauce with a roux. Youll notice the texture is slightly different than when you make a cheese sauce with a roux. But we find its worth the tradeoff with the ease of making this recipe!
Queso Cheese Dip Ingredients
The three ingredients I used to make this simple cheese dip are:
- plenty of real cheddar cheese
- half and half for richness
- corn starch to thicken
Cant beat that, 3 ingredients that you likely already have on hand!
I used Argo® Corn Starch because its a brand I trust and can always rely on for a consistent result to thicken my soups, sauces, stir-fries, gravies and so forth.
I like to use it here because it skips a step in making a roux with butter and flour and that also equates to little less cooking time too.
Do You Put Ketchup On Your Kraft Dinner Fancy Some Bread With Jam
In my family, there were three ways to eat Kraft Dinner. The first, which I think was the most common, was with ketchup on top. I used to eat it like that, but then I found a better way. The second way is just plain, of course. And its good plain Ive had it plain many times.
The third way which is probably only MY way, because it might seem to be a little odd to most people is with a slice of bread that has been buttered and smeared with strawberry jam. If that jam was homemade, it was even better! Oh my God, Dear Reader, the jam and the cheese is so good together. Before you screw up your nose at me, please give it a try. Just one bite, please! I think youll change your mind.

Kraft Uses Food Dehydrators To Make Its Cheese
The final step in going from cheese to cheese powder involves a process that actually far outdates Kraft Macaroni & Cheese itself food dehydration. The natural version of the process has been used by Indigenous Americans and some Eastern cultures for generations. Food dehydration dates back to the late 18th century . The main function of dehydrating food, either naturally, using heat, or more modern chemical processes, is to make it essentially non-perishable .
Today, its so common that you can buy food dehydrators on for less than $45. And thats basically what Kraft uses, only smaller. Kraft says, Similar to a food dehydrator you might have at home to dry out fruit like apples, we use a food dehydrator just a much larger version. This removes the moisture from the cheese sauce and turns our Cheese Sauce into dry powder.

How To Store Leftover Cheese Sauce
Leftover cheese sauce can be stored for up to five days in the fridge in an airtight container, says AlSawwaf. In order to avoid skin from forming on the top, Johnson recommends placing a piece of parchment paper on top of the sauce before closing the lid.
Once you’re ready to use the sauce, Johnson recommends heating it up slowly in a saucepan and adding some milk to the pan to achieve the desired consistency. It will thicken up in the fridge, so it will need to be thinned out a bit.
You can also freeze cheese sauce in an airtight container if you don’t expect to use it within a few days. AlSawwaf advises labeling and dating the container, and using it within three months. Reheating it from a frozen state can cause the cheese sauce to separate but rest assured it’ll revert back to the ideal consistency if you keep it on low heat and continuously stir it.
How To Make A Roux For Cheese Sauce
The most important part of any good sauce is a roux which is, essentially, a cooked, thickened combination of butter and flour.
This will be the base of the sauce and it only takes a few minutes to whip up! Be sure to stir it constantly and cook the flour to rid of any starchy flavor before adding the other ingredients.

Mexican Velveeta Nacho Review
Full transparency, I am not a fan of grandmas Mexican Velveeta Nachos. But then my husband makes a mean batch of grilled, smoked nachos so the bar is quite high.
My mom, on the other hand, thought that they were delicious. She loved the gooey cheese over the Doritos and complained just a little bit when she located a chip without what she determined to be the requisite amount.
It is, after all, our differences in preferences and tastes that makes this world such a delicious place to navigate.

Do I Really Need To Use Velveeta Cheese
Velveeta is perfect for melting and is known for its cheesy goodness. Nothing melts quite as good as Velveeta!
If you are looking for an alternative to Velveeta, you can find other processed cheese products in the supermarket. I recommend American cheese you get from the Deli department of your grocery store. It will melt very nicely and will help you create this easy dip recipe.

What To Serve With Cheddar Cheese Sauce
This Cheddar Cheese Sauce is pretty mild in taste, so it is definitely kid-friendly and can be added to a lot of foods. I love it with a baked potato and broccoli, but it works well with chips, noodles, sandwiches, pretzels, etc. If you want a little more kick to the sauce, try other types of cheeses like pepper jack cheese or really go out on a limb by using habanero cheddar cheese!

What Cheese Goes Good With Beer
If youre looking for an ideal pairing for a heavy cheese, try a pale lager, brown ale or even a stout. In addition, try heavy barley wine. Black stout can easily smother other flavors if it is too heavy, whereas sharp blue cheese can easily take it. Beers that are heavy, fruity, go well with blue cheeses as well.

This Mac and Cheese is easy to make on the stovetop and its ready in just 15 minutes. Skip the box and make the good stuff!
Its easy to make your own delicious mac and cheese at home in under 15 minutes. Boil your pasta in one pot and in another make a simple cheese sauce. The sauce starts with a traditional roux . Salt, white pepper, onion powder, and ground mustard are whisked in to add flavor. Milk is then poured in and as it comes to a simmer the roux slowly mixes in. The roux acts as a thickening agent and just as small bubbles appear for the simmer, your mixture should already be thickened. The heat is turned off, shredded cheese is stirred until melted, and then all that is left to do is stir in the drained al dente pasta from your other pot. Youll never use a boxed mix again!

Keep These Tips In Mind When Cooking With Cheese:
- Shred, crumble, or finely dice the cheese before heating to ensure quick, smooth melting. The colder the cheese is, the easier it will be to cut.
- The less you heat cheese, the better. When making soup, sauce, or fondue, add the cheese last then heat it only as long as it takes to melt. If it gets too hot it will get tough. Often, you can remove the pan from the burner the residual heat will melt the cheese.
- Allow the shredded cheese to come to room temperature before adding it to a hot mixture.
- Starch will keep the cheese from curdling. If using all-purpose flour, add it to the mixture before the cheese it needs to be cooked for a few minutes to remove the starchy taste.
- Adding an acidic ingredient such as wine or lemon juice will help prevent the cheese from becoming stringy. This is why most cheese fondue recipes have a base of white wine. Simply sprinkle some lemon juice over the shredded cheese before heating it.
- Reduced-fat cheeses melt differently than regular full-fat cheeses. Reduced fat cheese will take longer to melt and will not have the same velvety consistency in the sauce. Be sure to shred reduced-fat cheese very finely, and allow it to melt over very low heat while stirring constantly.
Why Is My Cheese Sauce Bland
Thats on the cheese. I like to use EXTRA sharp cheddar when making cheese sauce because I love the flavor. Your cheese sauce will ultimately end up tasting like the cheese that you use, because that is exactly what it is. If you use milk cheddar cheese, you arent going to get a rich, cheesy flavor. The dry mustard in this recipe helps to enhance that flavor but dont overdo it on the mustard. Still want more flavor? Try adding some hot sauce, jalapeños, or worcestershire sauce.
