How To Make Easy Cheese Sauce:

Its so simple! This is how to make it on the stovetop, which is my recommended method, but you can scroll down to the recipe card for more detailed directions as well as microwave directions. In the microwave, it likes to boil over, so use a big bowl and keep an eye on it!

  • Melt butter and whisk in flour. I like to use unsalted butter so you can season to taste at the end, because cheese can add a lot of saltiness to this sauce.
  • Slowly stir in Simple Truth Milk while whisking sauce. You can use fat-free milk, but I recommend 2% milk or whole milk for best results.
  • Continue to cook until mixture thickens. Remove from heat and whisk in shredded cheese and any other ingredients youd like to add.
  • Thats it! Its so easy and such a delicious thing to know how to make.
  • How To Make Queso

I make this sometimes on the stovetop while Im preparing other dishes, but most often, especially when I want to make it a bit ahead of time, I love using my slow cooker! My son and his friends can make it in the microwave in just a few minutes when they want scrumptious snack.

Like I mentioned, there are three super easy ways to make this favorite recipe.

    • Stovetop

To make this recipe, you only need 4 ingredients.

    • Grated Jalapeno Cheddar Cheese or Pepper Jack Cheese
    • Grated White American Cheese
    • Grated White Queso Blanco
    • Whole Milk or Half and Half

If you have any problems finding any of these cheeses, just ask your deli or dairy departments at the grocery store.

Make on the Stovetop Queso Recipe :

Add the grated cheeses and ½ of the half and half or milk to the double boiler over low heat.

Then, stir as the cheese melts and add more of the half and half or milk until the mixture reaches the desired consistency.

The cheese sauce should be thin, but still thick enough to coat a chip when dipped.

You can either serve it immediately or pour it into a small slow cooker on the warm setting to serve so that it stays hot.

    Slow Cooker Queso Recipe:

Add all of the grated cheese and the half and half or the whole milk.

Then, stir to combine and turn the slow cooker to Low setting.

Heat for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Then, turn the slow cooker to the Warm setting to keep hot for serving.

Tips For Making Chili Cheese Dip

    3

Be sure to use brick-style cream cheese and not the whipped kind that comes in a tub. Brick-style cream cheese makes for the creamiest chili cheese dip.

If using canned chili, give it a taste before mixing together the chili dip. You may want to add a sprinkle of cayenne or chili powder before assembling the chili cheese dip to give it some extra oompf.

If you have leftover chili cheese dip, reheat it gently in the oven or microwave or enjoy cold.

How To Make The Perfect Cheese Dip

Well, youve tried out a couple of methods. But your dip is too thick to budge. So you decide to make it again. Now we have the perfect recipe for you!

To make the perfect cheese dip youll need a couple of ingredients. Heres a list of it with the proportions.

    • ½ pound white American cheese
    • ¼ cup milk
    • ¼ ounce can of green chilies
    • ¼ teaspoon cumin
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
    • A pinch of cayenne pepper

Now add the cheese, milk, and butter and melt it in low heat. Stir it constantly so that there arent any lumps. After that, add the chilies, cumin, garlic, salt, and cayenne pepper to the mix.

Then stir it one last time and take it off the heat. Transfer the dip into a serving bowl and serve it with chips or any dish!

Now you can switch up the type of cheese you add to the dip. But its better to use regular cheese than high-temp cheese. In this way, you can make your dip creamier!

This is basically how you can cook the perfectly textured cheese dip. In case this might go wrong, you know how to make your cheese dip thinner too.

What Kind Of Chili Should I Use

I used a grocery store brand of hot chili. Apparently Ive been eating way too much authentically hot Mexican food or my homemade chili because I did not find the store-bought chili hot in the least.

Unless someone is extremely heat sensitive, I would opt for a hotter rather than milder chili because cream cheese and shredded cheese are pretty plain and the hotter chili jazzes things up enough so its not boring.

If you have a batch of homemade chili and are wondering what to do with the leftovers, this is an excellent way to repurpose some.

How to make MICROWAVE CHEESE DIP | Recipes.net

At the forefront of Velveetas list of ingredients are milk, water, whey, and milk protein concentrate. Milk protein concentrate is a concentrated milk product that contains 40-90% milk.

As far as the U.S. government is concerned, MPC is not an ingredient found in a cheese spread. The FDA ruled that because MPC was listed as an ingredient, Kraft could not identify this velvety, smooth product as a cheese spread, but rather a cheese product.

So is it technically real cheese? No. It is not, however, it is absolutely perfect for making Velveeta Cheese Dip.

Important Ingredients For Microwave Cheese Dip

    The Best Homemade Cheese Dip

The base of this simple recipe, lightly adapted from Bon Appetit, is made up of three simple ingredients when combined create a smooth and creamy cheese dip.

    • Real mild cheddar cheese and fontina cheese: Be sure to buy blocks of cheese and grate it yourself. You will need 8 ounces total of cheese which should be weighed before you shred it.
    • Ive tested this recipe using cups of shredded cheese and have gotten mixed results because the total amount of cheese will vary depending on how tightly you pack it into the measuring cup.
    • I havent tested this recipe with pre-shredded cheese. If you do please let me know how it went in the comments!
    • Cornstarch: Because were using real cheese we need a stabilizer, in this case, cornstarch, so that the cheese melts evenly and doesnt get stringy.
    • Evaporated milk is the other secret ingredient used to create a smooth and creamy dip. Its more concentrated than regular milk and cream resulting in a smooth and shiny dip.

What Is The Best Way To Melt Velveeta Cheese

The quickest and easiest way to melt Valveeta cheese is using the microwave. A double boiler requires boiling water with a saucepan and constant stirring to manage temperature without burning.

Microwave can consistently keep a medium temperature to melt cheese. As a result, there is no concern about going over or under the temperature compared to other heating tools. Make sure to dice, shred or slice the cheese to make it melt quickly. However, there is a slight time difference between burning or melting Velveeta cheese in the microwave, and it all happens in the blink of an eye. So, how long do you microwave Velveeta cheese?

How Long Do You Put Velveeta Cheese In The Microwave

Depending on the amount of cheese and how big the pieces are cut or shredded, melting Velveeta cheese can take anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes.

On average, it will take about 30 seconds on high power setting to melt Velveeta cheese in the microwave without any milk or butter added. Nuke for 15 second intervals and stir after each duration to evenly melt the cheese into liquid, however you may need to microwave Velveeta for a total of 2 minutes.

You can add butter or milk to speed up the melting process and produce and melty gooey consistency. Adding milk will help to slow the hardening process as the melted cheese cools, while adding a slice of butter in the cheese mixture adds more fat to help prevent burning in the microwave.

    Using Any Type Of Alcohol

Besides using dairy and non-dairy products, you can also add alcohol. This will add a pop of uniqueness to the taste besides thinning out your dip. But at times the alcohol evaporates at high heat. Therefore, you have to cook the alcohol in medium heat for it to not go bad!

    Beer

Adding beer to your dip will definitely thin out your dip. Plus itll add a very sweet and sour taste to your dish.

So, add the beer one tablespoon at once and stir it in. Add more if you didnt get the right consistency with one spoon of liquid.

Now if youre using cheddar cheese, American lager will go great with it. But the German pilsner will give an extra sharp taste to your dish.

Red Wine Or Dry White Wine

Now for this, youll use the one tablespoon at a time method as well. However, there is a limit to how much wine per pound of cheese you can add. Because wine usually has a sweet, sour, and at times salty taste. And this can overpower the cheese flavor. You can use 5 tablespoons per 6 ounces of cheese.

For this, add the wine when the dip is still on the stove. Reduce the temperature down to low heat. Then, slowly add your choice of wine.

Make sure to incorporate the wine, depending on your portion size. Otherwise, your cheese dip might end up tasting more like wine.

    Whiskey

Now depending on the thickness, you can add about 3 tablespoons per pound of cheese. Use the same technique of using one tablespoon at a time to add this.

    Bourbon
