Four Chuck E Cheese Locations In Massachusetts To Permanently Close 45 Locations To Close Permanently Nationwide After Filing For Bankruptcy

After Chuck E. Cheeses parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June, the company has decided to close some of its locations.

The company listed 45 locations it planned to close or keep closed, according to USA Today. The list included 11 locations that were closed prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

Four of those listed are in Massachusetts, including Springfield, Natick, Leominster and Danvers.

The pandemic isnt the only reason the company has struggled.

Chuck E. Cheeses has had issues before the pandemic, losing money four of the last five years after being acquired by Apollo Global Management in 2014, CNN reported.

It also began offering delivery through DoorDash, but using a different name.

Some began ordering Pasquallys Pizza & Wings, thinking they were supporting a local business, according to Food & Wine. It turned out to be Chuck E. Cheese.

Pasquallys Pizza & Wings, named after another favorite member of Munchs Make Believe Band, shares kitchen space with the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, ensuring high-quality, fresh ingredients, a Chuck E. Cheese spokesperson told Food & Wine.

‘there Won’t Be Any Hope’

Watsons grim view up and down his supply chain is similar to that in many consumer industries right now. Downstream, his main customer has filed for bankruptcy. Upstream, many of his suppliers in China and South Korea have gone quiet, no longer returning messages.

One of his former suppliers started trying to sell him disinfection chambers instead of childrens rides, he said.

In Zhongshan, Chinas capital for amusement ride manufacturing, many of Watsons suppliers are struggling for survival. In April, Zhongshan amusement ride manufacturers reported to provincial officials that overseas orders had ground to a halt, making it difficult for them to meet factory rents and worker salaries, according to an account published by an industry group.

The local government arranged bank loans and other subsidies to help tide them through, but several have filed for bankruptcy in recent months.

Sun Junhao, the general manager of Zhongshan-based industry magazine Amuse China, said that among the hundreds of childrens ride makers there, many are suffering, especially those that had relied on foreign exports.

Exports have almost stopped, he said, of the U.S. and European markets. We believe there wont be any hope before the end of the year.

Procurement from Europe usually starts in March, she said. This year, their procurement has not even started yet.

Chuck E Cheese Lafayette

My granddaughter’s enjoyed this Chuck e cheese location. Lots of great games for ALL ages! Clean, helpful, safe place to enjoy an afternoon!

All games are still a quarter. The staff is super friendly! If you lost a quarter in the game, the staff have no problems getting it back. This CEC is clean and there are plenty of games for all.

If you’re five to ten years old this is probably Nirvana. Pizza, pop, games, running, yelling, climbing, jumping. What more could you want? So, if you want your kids to have a great time, take ’em. Just know that you’ll leave with a headache and…an empty wallet. Not my cup of tea, but it might be yours.More

We visit this location every month or two when we visit relatives in Lafayette. We had a party of 5 kids and 4 adults and we all enjoyed it. The pizza is not exceptional but the salad bar was fresh and very tasty. It had…a nice variety of veggies, salads and dressing choices and there was an all you can eat option. The adults in our group all enjoyed the salads. The kids of course loved the games and rides. You can buy a package with pizza, drinks and tokens. Yet it can be a better buy if you watch for coupons in newspapers or on their website that give better discounts for the ride/game tokens and food purchases. This is a great family evening with food and fun and even the adults enjoyed playing some of the games.More

Has Chuck E Cheese In Langhorne Closed

Rumors have been circulating online that the Chuck E. Cheese at the Langhorne Square Shopping Center on E. Lincoln Hwy. has closed.

The website levittownnow.com says that workers were seen removing games from the restaurant on Wednesday afternoon and that a sign had been posted directing patrons to the Chuck E. Cheese in Warrington, PA.

If the location has closed, it seems like it something that is somewhat of a surprise. The restaurant posted on its Facebook page as recently as Tuesday afternoon. That post promoted a “free kids mask” promotion.

Last Friday, @ChuckECheesesLevittown shared a post promoting “Fun Break Friday.”

It’s likely that these posts were just automatically shared from Chuck E. Cheese’s corporate page, but it seems odd that there is no announcement or comment regarding the closure.

Also, when you check locations on the Chuck E. Cheese website, the Levittown, PA listing says, “Restaurant is Open For Games & Dine-in.,” but when you click on “Store Details,” every day is listed as “Closed.”

Levittownnow.com says that it reached out to Chuck E. Cheese for a comment regarding the closure but did not get a response, but a worker who was part of the crew moving the games out of the restaurant told the website that “the location has closed for good.”

If we get confirmation that this restaurant has closed for good, we will post an update.

Chuck E Cheese Might Close All Its Locations Here’s Why

Chuck E. Cheese

It was the place to go to get cheap eats and play games, and plenty of both, too. But like other chain restaurants which have been brought to its knees by the pandemic and the social distancing requirements that came with it, Chuck E. Cheese‘s owner, CEC Entertainment, is now fighting to keep the popular children’s party venue alive. The Wall Street Journal says the company, which is based in Irving, Texas, is asking lenders to give it an extra $200 million to allow it to avoid bankruptcy. And while that sounds like plenty, the money represents just a drop in the bucket for CEC because it is over $900 million in debt .

The pandemic struck at a time when Chuck E. Cheese had begun to grow at a modest clip, reporting a small 2.7 percent increase in sales after two years where sales were either flat or negative. It had even started to reopen some of its locations which had closed as a result of COVID-19. By April, though, CEC Entertainment was looking to options that included refinancing, restructuring out-of-court, or bankruptcy.

A New Chuck E Cheese Childrens Ride But No One To Ride It

This spring, Dave Watson flew from his British factory to Dallas to present the restaurant chain Chuck E. Cheese with his new coin-operated childrens ride.

The machine, which Watson said cost his company about $64,000 to develop, featured a miniature train chugging around a grinning likeness of Chuck E. Cheeses mouse mascot.

Then the pandemic shutdowns hit, forcing many businesses to close or rethink everything from how to serve customers to how to get supplies. Bankruptcies were not far behind. A wave of major U.S. corporate brands have sought Chapter 11 protections.

The parent company of Chuck E. Cheese did it in late June.

This machine has been there since March and still has not had a child ride on it, said Watson, general manager of Jolly Roger Ltd. Sums the whole problem up I guess.

Fallout from the bankruptcies of dozens of American companies is rippling across the globe, as suppliers find themselves with orders abruptly canceled and customers saying they cant pay their debts.

One major problem for suppliers: they are at a lower priority level for debt repayment under Chapter 11 bankruptcy rules compared with secured creditors such as banks. That means for many factories, their new orders have not only stopped, but they face grim chances of recouping payment for products already shipped.

Pier 1 Imports did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Chuck E Cheese Has Filed For Bankruptcy

The company has filed for bankruptcy in the wake of amassing more than $1 billion of debt.

Chuck E. Cheese tried unsuccessfully to raise $200 million from lenders in recent weeks. Now theyre trying to restructure their finances by filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The filing doesnt directly affect the 186 franchise-owned Chuck E. Cheese locations.

We’re Not Ready To Say Goodbye To Chuck E

In this slowly reopening world, social distancing will shape the way we live life. Were all thinking about whether were ready to eat at restaurants again, how many people were comfortable with having over, if its possible to stay six feet apart at the beach, and on and on.

This change poses a problem for businesses that thrived on packing attendees in enclosed spaces or having multiple customers play the same games . Chuck E. Cheese, unfortunately, falls into both categories. Because of COVID-related complications, it might have to close the doors at its 610 locations for good.

It’s lights out for a long-running West Ashley pizza restaurant and entertainment venue that’s hosted countless kids birthday parties over its nearly 40-year run.

The parent company of Chuck E. Cheese, which was forced into bankruptcy last week after the coronavirus pandemic decimated its business, is seeking approval to permanently close its already-shuttered arcade-style restaurant on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard.

The suburban Charleston property near Ashley Hall Road is on a list of 46 real estate leases that CEC Entertainment is seeking permission to abandon, according to a legal filing.

All of the sites were described as “underperforming venues” that have no value for the company as it looks to cut debt and emerge from bankruptcy with a more financially sustainable balance sheet.

What Will Chuck E Cheese Look Like Post

A generation ago, Chuck E. Cheese was the place with the ball pit and the animatronic band and the lukewarm pizza consumed by children so they could keep playing games.

Today, the ball pit is gone and Chuck E. Cheese himself is sidelined from walking the floor due to COVID. Even the companys pizza recipe has been reimagined to reach a wider audience.

The pandemic has sped up the pace of change for the eatertainment brand and its parent company CEC Entertainment, which in June became the first major chain to declare bankruptcy amid the coronavirus crisis, the companys CEO David McKillips said in an interview with Restaurant Business Monday.

As the Irving, Texas-based company, which also operates Peter Piper Pizza and delivery-only Pasquallys Pizza, navigates bankruptcy proceedings, it is re-envisioning the future of its 43-year-old food-and-games concept Chuck E. Cheese.

Everything were doing, we want to have in-store, at home and online, McKillips said.

Case in point: Parties.

Birthday parties have historically made up 15% of Chuck E. Cheeses revenue, McKillips said. Due to capacity restrictions, the number of birthday parties that can be held at each location per day is greatly reduced.

We are significantly down in our birthday parties right now, in the comp basis, he said. Weve pivoted to delivery birthdays at home.

At-home offerings include goodie bags, tickets for future game play, branded tableware and photo backdrops.
