Create Vents For Steam

For a shiny, golden crust that is more attractive looking, brush the pockets with beaten egg before baking.

Before baking, cut slits using a sharp butcher knife, or poke holes using the tines of a fork to allow steam to escape.

If they close up, the filling might burst out the sides, so keep an eye on them, especially if you’ve brushed them with egg wash.

Is Eating 2 Hot Pockets Bad

Probably not. Hot pockets are basically empty calories and a lot of sodium. Because of all of the sodium Id definately drink at least a gallon of water a day to help process it all. There are a lot of different kinds of hot pockets and some are better than others, but none are really even moderately good for you.

Are Hot Pockets Healthy

If someone complains that hot pockets make me sick, it can be because of so many reasons. It may be because the person is allergic to any ingredient present in hot pockets. Another reason can be that hot pockets are too spicy that it irritates the stomach or maybe the hot pockets were not fresh and they caused food poisoning. So, are hot pockets good for you? It depends on how much you eat.

You probably already assume that hot pockets are a very healthy food option around but whats actually in them may surprise you. Maybe, you are curious to know, are lean hot pockets healthy? Heres what you are consuming when you bite into a hot pocket.

Hot pockets or lean hot pockets are bread filled with meat, cheese, and sometimes vegetables. Thats probably not the type of meal you can expect to taste sweet or to feature sugar as a prime ingredient. But pretty much every hot pocket contains between 2 and 8 grams of sugar.

Of course, sugar occurs naturally in vegetable and milk products so it should not come as a surprise that a product with cheese would include some sugar. But if you are trying to stay away from added sugars in your diet, it is important to pay attention. According to a Mayo clinic, people sticking to a 2000 calorie diet should not consume more than 48 grams of sugar per day.

How To Make Homemade Hot Pockets

  • Prepare homemade pizza dough, or substitute homemade dough with 1-pound store-bought dough.
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into about an 8-inch oval.
  • Evenly divide ham and cheese between ovals, placing the slices on the center of the dough.
  • Fold the dough over, creating a crescent shape and using your fingers or the prongs of a fork, tightly seal the edges of the hot pocketjust like you would for a calzone.
  • Place the hot pockets onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or that is well greased. Cut 2-3 slits across the top of each hot pocket to allow steam to escape while baking.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, until the dough is golden brown.

Are Pizza Pockets Healthy

Pizza hot pockets are also not a healthy snack to eat as they are full of artificial flavors and harmful ingredients. The pepperoni pizza may seem to be made with real cheese but imitation cheese is mostly used in it. They remove the natural milk-based protein from cheese and replace it with non-milk-based alternatives which are often vegetable fats.

The result is almost identical to regular cheese and the flavor is very similar but they do not contain considerable nutrients. So the pizza pockets just become empty calories rather than contributing to the nutritional status of our body. This artificial cheese is less expensive, so most of the food manufacturing companies do the same trick hence depriving you of real cheese and its health benefits.

Also, the pizza pockets are high in sodium and high fructose corn syrup which you know are the real problematic ingredients.

What

Let me first say, I actually like hot pockets brand products, most of them. I, however don’t enjoy these too much. Hot Pockets Lean Pockets – Deli Style Ham and Cheddar are honestly not quite what I expected. Unlike the other sandwich flavors, for some reason, the ham tastes a little salty and has a more limp texture to it. The cheese gives off a milky after taste. and there seems to be a bit of unextracted water that lingers in the ham. I didn’t like how the set up of cheese chunks inter – mingle with the slightly over salted meat. The crust is very similar to all the other hot pockets, no complaints there. The problem for me may very well be that I don’t often enjoy warm deli styled, cut lunchmeat at all. Whether it be from the deli, sub shop or in a premade sandwich, I never have so, to be fair, I will say that my perception of the flavor may have something to do with that.

Ham and Cheese Pockets are so easy to make with flaky puff pastry, sliced ham and cheddar with some mustard for extra flavor. Feel free to switch up the meats or cheese to customize your own hot sandwich.

When I worked in a bakery, we made more than just the sweet stuff. We would make these easy Ham and Cheese Pockets for catered events and things. We actually used danish dough instead of puff pastry, but its easier to find the puff pastry in regular grocery stores and its so flakey good!

Basically all you need is frozen puff pastry sheets, cheddar cheese slices, and ham slices. The mustard is optional. This time we used dijon, but you can use yellow or honey mustard as well.

Start by cutting a pastry sheet into fourths and roll them out just a little bit so you have room for your meat and cheese.

Add your meat, cheese, and mustard, then brush a whisked egg on the edges of half the square so you can fold it over and seal the dough together.

Fold over the top half of dough and pinch the edges or use a fork to seal them together. Cut a few slits on top for ventilation and brush the tops with the whisked egg.

Making The Dough For The Crust

As I mentioned above, this recipe calls for a portion of whole wheat flour, but you can use all white in the same quantity, and follow the recipe the same.

Using whole wheat makes it a healthy hot pocket alternative, but I do think the sweet, nutty flavor of the crust goes better with the rich cheese sauce and salty ham.

Start by combining the dough ingredients in a stand mixer using the dough hook on the lowest speed. Continue to run the mixer for 5 minutes until dough begins to pull away from the edges as shown below . Then, transfer the ball of dough to a greased bowl and rotate it a few times to coat in the shortening or butter . Cover, and allow to rest in a warm location for 1 hour .

How To Make Keto Hot Pockets Aka The Best Ever Low Carb Croque Monsieur:

1.) Place the mozzarella in a heat proof bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 60 seconds. Stir and heat for a further 20 30 seconds until fully melted. Careful not to burn.

2.) Add the sunflower seed or sesame seed flour and mix with a spatula to combine into a ball. If the dough gets too cold at any point simply pop back in the microwave for 30 seconds to warm.

3.) Roll the dough between two sheets of greaseproof paper or a silicone mat and a sheet of greaseproof into an oblong shape.

4.) Place the ham in the centre and top with cheese and mustard. .

Tip: If you use thin ham you can roll it up instead of placing it flat onto the dough. This way your pockets end up thicker and fluffier. You can also use grated cheese instead of cheese slices. This is what I did when I made the recipe the second time around.

5.) Fold the edges of the dough over to form a pocket. Turn the pocket over so the seal is at the bottom. Piece two tiny air holes in the top with a sharp knife. Not too big or the cheese will escape! Bake in the oven for around 12-15 minutes until golden on top.
