The new Epic Stuffed Crust Pizza is coming to Papa Johns menu on Monday.

To create the pizza, Papa Johns hand-stuffs its original crust with extra mozzarella cheese and tops the pizza with its signature pizza sauce and more cheese.

The long-awaited debut of the item was inspired by Papa Johns customers, according to a statement released by the chain.

Stuffed crust lovers are passionate pizza fans, and it is something our fans continue to ask for, said Tom Smith, Papa Johns director of culinary innovation. Since quality crust is at our core, were excited to deliver stuffed crust lovers an experience theyre sure to enjoy.

Papa Johns Papa Rewards members will get the first shot at trying the new pizza from Monday through Dec. 27 at select locations. The chain is giving them a chance to taste the pie before it launches nationwide on Dec. 28. A large one-topping pizza is $12 with the promo code STUFFED.

Menu R& D has been ongoing at Papa Johns in 2020. The chain introduced six new products this year, including the Papadia, an Italian flatbread-style sandwich, and Jalapeno Popper Rolls.

The chain benefited from the surge in delivery during the pandemic. In April alone, same-store sales were up 27% year over year, with customers ordering pizzas as well as the new Papadias.

You can start any pizza with this basic homemade pizza dough meatlovers and tandoori chicken are old favourites for us but more recently Ive used it to make my Pesto Chicken Calzone and it works a treat.

    If you want to bake the pizza on a pizza steel, you need to preheat the oven for at least 45 minutes to an hour prior to baking. The reason is that it takes time for the baking surface to absorb the heat and come to temperature. You also want to preheat the steel or stone at the hottest setting on your oven, to make sure its really hot and nice. Then, right before youre ready to bake the pizza, turn down the temperature to 450°F so you dont burn the pizza. By doing this youll make sure you have a really nice and hot baking surface that will make the pizza perfectly crispy, without burning the top of the pizza.

    It can be challenging to transfer the pizza from your countertop to the oven, after topping it.     1. Start by punching down the dough, and take it out of the rising container, onto a lightly flour dusted working surface.

    2. Next, stretch out the dough. Or roll out the dough using a rolling pin . You want the edge do be thin. The reason is that you dont want too much dough around the cheese in your stuffed crust.

    Make the dough around 4 inches, or 10 cm, in diameter larger than you want your finished pizza to be, so you have that extra dough to wrap the cheese in.

    3. Place the string cheese sticks in a circle around 2 inches from the edge.

    If you want a nicer looking pizza, you can squeeze the string cheese sticks to bend them.

    Place the cheese stick close to each other, around the whole pizza. And make sure you have 2 inches or so outside of the cheese ring to have enough dough to fold over the cheese.

    4. Fold the dough tightly over the cheese sticks, and close it. If you leave any openings here, the cheese will escape when its melting during baking. If the fold is hard to close, use a little bit of water to help it stick.

    5. Finish the pizza by adding tomato sauce, cheese and your favorite toppings!
