Cream Cheese Banana Bread

Cream Cheese Banana Bread | Easy Recipe

Friends, are you ready to try my world famous Cream Cheese Banana Bread? Okay, maybe its not quite world famous just yet, but its good enough to be! My family loves it, it disappears practically as soon as I pull it out of the oven. Its that good!

Yes, Cream Cheese Banana Bread is a little bit different than your typical banana bread, but I can honestly say that it is better. The cream cheese in this recipe adds a moist, rich flavor that enhances that delicious banana bread taste that you already know and love. You will not be disappointed to put a spin on this classic, I assure you!

I love to bake several loaves of this Cream Cheese Banana Bread to keep on hand for when the kids decide that they need a snack. As I mentioned earlier, this bread doesnt last long once its baked so I like to double up my recipe and have extra. You can freeze it for later too!

Why Is The Cream Cheese Glaze A Little Different From The Original Recipe

The cream cheese glaze on the original Crumbl banana bread cookies didnt have much cream cheese flavor and had a more liquidy yet thick texture which leads me to think that they used cream cheese powder in their original recipe.

In an effort to keep this recipe easily replicable in your own kitchen, I decided to stick to a regular cream cheese glaze. So the taste will slightly differ from the original cream cheese glaze on their banana bread cookies but will still be delicious nonetheless.

How To Make Banana Bread Cookies

In a large bowl, stir together your butter, brown sugar, and sugar until nice and smooth. Add in the eggs, vanilla extract and mashed banana, and stir them together until combed.

In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Then dump all the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and fold them together until you have a really soft dough. The dough will be runnier than a normal cookie dough.

Carefully scoop the dough in about 1.5 Tablespoon sized scoops, onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. The cookies will spread a decent amount, so make sure to space them 2 to 3 inches apart on the pan.

Bake until the cookies are set, and the tops look baked. Then let them cool completely before frosting them.

Combine all the ingredients for the frosting and spread them evenly over the top of the cooled cookies.

How To Make Banana Bread With Cream Cheese Filling

Dont let the cream cheese filling fool you into thinking this is a tough banana bread recipe to make its not! This is an incredibly easy homemade banana bread recipe.

To make the cream cheese banana bread batter, first whisk together the egg, sugars, coconut oil, sour cream, and vanilla before stirring in the mashed bananas and the rest of the dry ingredients. Turn about two-thirds of the batter into a greased loaf pan and smooth out the top with a spatula or the back of a spoon.

Then, stir together the ingredients for the cream cheese filling and carefully pour over the banana bread batter. Smooth out the top once more before pouring the remaining banana bread batter over the cream cheese layer.

Bake the cream cheese banana bread until the top is domed, golden, and the center is set, and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Note that the toothpick test isnt the most accurate because the cream cheese never gets totally solid.

Once the bread is out of the oven, let it cool completely before slicing and serving. The cream cheese center needs time to set fully, and if you slice it too soon itll just ooze out.

Easiest Banana Bread With Cream Cheese Filling

With over 40+ banana bread and banana recipes, I dont know why Ive never incorporated cream cheese. I dont know what I was thinking because I was really missing out! This cream cheese banana bread is soft and moist, and the cream cheese layer is like having a layer of cheesecake baked into the moist banana bread. No complaints here!

I had ripe bananas and cream cheese getting ready to expire and knew I needed to do something with both. And voila, this cream cheese swirl banana bread was born.

The big river of cream cheese reminds me of the cream cheese in my Blueberry and Cream Cheese Muffin Top Bread, but this is a thick, bold, unmistakeable layer. It really makes this bread out of this world.

What makes this the best banana bread recipe ever, you ask? For starters, its an easy, no mixer recipe that goes from bowl to oven in minutes.

I use melted coconut oil so theres no butter to cream and no mixer to dirty. Oil keeps bread softer and springier than butter, and I prefer the taste. And a little sour cream is extra insurance for a soft, springy, bouncy, fluffy loaf. Using sour cream, Greek yogurt, or buttermilk in quick bread and muffin recipe ensures more tender results.

How To Achieve The Perfect Swirl

I think that the beauty of the swirl lies in its imperfections! No two swirls are alike, and its fun to see how itll turn out with each new batch.

However, there are a few things you need to know to become a Champion of Swirls:

    • Pour half the banana bread batter into the greased loaf pan.
    • Then add dollops of the cream cheese mixture to the batter, followed by the rest of the batter.
    • Take a butter knife and run it through the batter in a swirly pattern. I like to run it in a ribbon pattern going horizontally and then going vertically.

Your swirl pattern may be different from mine, and thats okay! The cream cheese batter is a little on the thicker side, so youll want to swirl the batter a few times.

For the best tasting cream cheese banana bread, youll want to use really ripe bananas that have plenty of black spots on them. You need to actually measure out the mashed banana to see if its 1 cup, because your idea of two large bananas may be different than mine, and you want to add the exact right amount of banana to this bread.

Also note that once you add the flour to the banana bread batter you should continue mixing the batter until everything is just combined. You do NOT want to over mix the batter, otherwise your homemade banana bread will be a little tough.

Lastly, tent the pan with a sheet of foil draped over it at the 30 minute-mark if you feel the tops and sides of the cream cheese-filled banana bread will become too browned before the center cooks through. Baking times will vary based on moisture content of bananas, cream cheese, climate, and oven variances. You need to bake this moist banana bread until done watch your bread, not the clock.
