One producer you might find overseas is Tasmanias King Island Dairy. They regularly feature in the Australian Grand Dairy Awards and make excellent soft cheeses including camembert, brie and soft blue varieties. Other well known producers include Bruny Island Cheese , Holy Goat! , and Meredith Dairy .

We love Holy Goat! And they are a regular at local farmers markets in Victoria. We see them monthly at the Collingwood Childrens Farm Market where they have been a stall holder for years. You can find reference to our preference for Meredith Dairys feta in our recent Avocado Smash Recipe.

Where To Buy Pimentos

  • Pimento’s are found in any grocery store. Look in the canned vegetable aisle, and they should be close to roasted red peppers, artichokes, and perhaps olives. They are typically in a small glass jar. I always find them on the top shelf.
  • Alternatively, you can make your own, but I find it much easier and time saving to buy the store jarred version.

Pimento cheese is great alone, or spread onto other foods. Here are the most popular ways to enjoy it:

  • Slather Pimento cheese on white bread and make a delicious sandwich. Take it to the next level by cooking it on the stovetop to make a Pimento Cheese Grilled Cheese.
  • Add a scoop inside your morning omelet or on top of scrambled eggs.
  • Spread the dip on top of crackers or chips.

How To Make Pimento Cheese:

  • Get all the ingredients together. This is a dump and mix recipe, so it’s very easy.
  • Using a large mixing bowl, add everything except the shredded cheese and mix well with a hand mixer or stand mixer. You can also mix by hand, but it’s easier with the electric mixer.
  • Once everything is mixed well, add the extra sharp cheddar cheese and mix well until combine. The cheese should be somewhat chunky, but incorporated with the other ingredients.
  • Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving. The longer it has to meld, the better. I find the flavor to be even tastier after 24 hours.

    Homemade Southern Style Pimento Cheese

    That was when my mother started working on southern style pimento cheese recipes.

    I think my dad enjoyed that because he kept asking her what secret ingredient she was going to add next. She kept trying different things, until she settled on one we all liked.

    Hands down, our favorite add-on was chopped jalapeno peppers. Here are some of the other things we tried:

    Whats The Best Storebought Pimento Cheese

    Few things seem more Southern than a pile of pimento cheese.

    But the origin of pimento cheese may surprise some. According to Southern food history writer and author Robert Moss, pimento cheese was not first made in the South, but rather in New York State.

    At its heart, pimento cheese is a simple combination of grated cheese, pimento peppers, mayonnaise and seasoning.

    In the late 19th century, pimento peppers became a popular import from Spain. Pimentos were combined with cream cheese to form the first known versions of a pimento cheese spread. The Souths iconic version developed in the 20th century when Spanish peppers became a big industry in Georgia. Moss suggests that it was a combination of the Depression Era-popularity of hoop cheese and mayonnaise that led to the development of pimento cheese as we know it today.

    While making pimento cheese is not a difficult task, there are many days where its simply easier to run to the store and get one of the many available brands in the market today to slather on bread or slowly cover all the crevices of a Triscuit cracker.

    This week I tried four popular brands that can easily be obtained locally. All four are made in the South and found at most supermarkets or, in the case of DiPratos, found at the restaurant deli. I tried each both cold out of the container and hot out of the oven to see which would best fit any situation.
