What Are The Benefits Of Cottage Cheese Before Bed

5 Ways To Burn Fat And Lose Weight While You Are Sleeping

Bedtime snacks are a cherished tradition in many cultures, but as with so many other things, people take a good idea and run wild with it. A piece of cheese and a handful of nuts are a healthy, nutritious snack. An entire bag of crunchy cheese curls is not, and that is true even if you’re ignoring the mountains of neon orange dust you’ll end up with on your sheets, on your skin and possibly on any nearby pets or loved ones.

Video of the Day

Eating before bed serves several purposes, both good and not so good. Food is soothing and can connect you to your culture or family traditions. It’s easier for some people to fall asleep with a full belly. A little screen time before bed is more fun with a snack. That refrigerator won’t clean itself out.

The key to a successful bedtime snack is to keep it simple and keep it pure. A small serving of cottage cheese, with or without fruit or other natural and delicious toppings provides protein and other nutrients in a creamy, low-calorie treat that will send you off to dreamland without a load of guilt.

Tip

A small serving of cottage cheese before bed offers protein to help your body repair and build muscle and keeps you from waking up starving.

Great Source Of B Vitamins

B vitamins are incredibly important and beneficial when it comes to our health and well-being, yet many of us are deficient in at least some of them, without even realizing it.

B vitamins play a vital role in metabolic health, so the more you consume the more effectively your metabolism will work.

As well as that, B vitamins also promote digestive health, cardiovascular health, and cognitive health and function.

If you arent getting enough B vitamins, cottage cheese is the perfect snack.

Can you eat cottage cheese every day? As long as youre not lactose intolerant and your diet is varied, this shouldnt be a problem.

However, there are a few things you should know:

  • Consuming very high amounts of protein may contribute to kidney problems, so consider sticking to a daily intake that doesnt provide more than you need.
  • It may cause problems if you are lactose intolerant. Issues include diarrhea, bloating, cramps, gas and an upset stomach. Lactose intolerance ultimately makes digesting dairy products a pretty big challenge for some. While your doctor can help, you may need to avoid dairy altogether. You can find lactose-free versions in the grocery store.
  • It may cause allergic reactions. If you experience hives, itching, swelling and/or breathing trouble, make sure to stop eating it immediately and contact your doctor.
  • It may raise your blood pressure due to its high sodium content. If blood pressure is a problem for you, make your own to keep your sodium intake in check.

Based on sales on the over past decade, cottage cheese seems to be making a comeback. Perhaps this is because its high in protein and low in carbs, therefore considered by some to be the perfect cheese for both low-carb and low-fat diets.

Turns out, this unique-looking dairy product has some impressive benefits.

Why is it healthy to eat cottage cheese? It can help control your appetite, provides some important nutrients, such as phosphorus, and can even provide probiotics just like yogurt.

However, not all cottage cheese is treated equal.

The Cornucopia Institute, which produces science-based reports about food products to help inform consumers, recently completed an investigation into the cottage cheese industry, ranking over 100 types. The findings revealed theres a wide variety in terms of quality of cottage cheeses depending on factors including type of production , amount of processing, and whether sugar and other additives are used.

How Much Vitamin D Does A Body Require

8 of the Best Foods That Will Burn Fat While You Sleep

Usually, 1,000-4,000 IU is considered a safe daily dose for maintaining healthy levels of vitamin D. However, people may need much larger doses especially if their current levels are very low or they have limited exposure to sunlight. The optimal blood level of vitamin D is not concretely established but likely falls between 20 and 50 ng/mL. Calcium supplementation along with Vitamin D consumption is essential for structurally strong bones and muscles.

There is a significant debate about how much vitamin D is needed by the body.

  • As per U.S. National Academy of Medicine: 600-800 IU of daily vitamin D is considered to be sufficient for the majority of the population. The U.S. National Academy of Medicine further suggests that a daily intake of up to 4,000 IU of vitamin D is safe for most people, although much higher doses may be temporarily necessary to raise blood levels in some individuals.
  • As per U.S. Endocrine Society: 1,500-2,000 IU per day is required for the body.
  • As per the Reference Daily Intake: 600-800 IU of vitamin D is recommended for adults.
  • Daily consumption of more than 4,000 IU is not recommended, as it may be toxic to the body.

  • What Does Vitamin D Do For Us

A recent article that I read called out the link between the microbiome and absorption and activation of vitamin D. Basically that means that the healthier the bugs in your belly, the better the absorption of vitamin D or thats the hypothesis anyway. Does that mean take a probiotic if youre not? Well Id say a strong HELL YES, because I also know the impact of probiotics on mental health, immunity, digestion, vitamin absorption and overall health, so its a win-win as far as Im concerned.

The desirable range from your blood test is 50 to100 ng/mL which I find pretty broad, but if youre under that, double or quadruple your dose for about a month and test again. The only way to know is to test. I have a friend who has taken 20,000iu per day for months and her blood test was WAY over. Two months later, without taking any, its coming down. She didnt have any toxicity symptoms and is watching to see how quickly her body uses it. She also lives in California and is exposed to sunshine regularly without a hat, scarf, and full body covered in clothes in the winter time.

Research shows that a lack of vitamin D in your body can lead to hair loss. One role vitamin D plays is stimulating new and old hair follicles. When there isnt enough vitamin D in your system, new hair growth can be stunted. Um, that one is for both men and women because it affects both.

Eating This Before Bed Helps You Burn Calories And Lose Weight While You Sleep

Want to shed body fat? Well, you might want to start having a small pre-bed dose of cottage cheese

HAVING a midnight snack is hardly considered a diet-friendly habit.

But it might be if you chow down on cottage cheese, experts say.

Scientists from Florida State University claim that having a protein-rich snack like cottage cheese may help to up your metabolism.

They’ve found that eating 30g of protein about 30 minutes before bed may have a positive effect on muscle quality, metabolism and overall health.

And having a late-night cottage cheese hit also doesn’t increase body fat.

To test the effect of consuming whole foods rather than synthetic protein shakes or supplements on fat loss and muscle recovery, scientists got a group of active women in their 20s to eat cottage cheese 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime.

“Until now, we presumed that whole foods would act similarly to the data on supplemental protein, but we had no real evidence,” said Associate Professor of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences Michael Ormsbee.

“This is important because it adds to the body of literature that indicates that whole foods work just as well as protein supplementation, and it gives people options for presleep nutrition that go beyond powders and shaker bottles.”

While eating protein won’t necessarily make you lose weight, it will help to make sure that the weight you are carrying is lean muscle rather than fat.

So, whats the rule here? Should you wait 30 minutes before going to bed after eating just like your mom always made you wait at the pool? Nope, you should actually allow more time. Experts recommend waiting at least three hours after youve eaten to go to bed. This allows your body time to digest your food so youre not up at night with an upset stomach, indigestion or heartburn.

The researchers boast that this study is the first to prove that eating whole foods as opposed to protein shakes or dietary supplements could be good for the health.

“While protein supplements absolutely have their place, it is important to begin pooling data for foods and understanding the role they can play in these situations,” explained Florida State University student Samantha Leyh. “Like the additive and synergistic effects of vitamins and minerals when consumed in whole food form such as fruits or veggies, perhaps whole food sources may follow suit.”

Researchers, however, warned that their findings cannot be applied to all whole foods. Additional studies are still needed to see whether other foods will have the same effects to a person’s health and well-being as cottage cheese.

Michael Ormsbee, an associate professor from Florida State University, assured that they will continue looking at other food choices that can help people recover from exercise, lose weight, and gain a better overall health.

“There is much more to uncover in this area of study,” Ormsbee added.
