Comparing the calorie count for a serving of this dish versus a serving of Nacho Fries Supreme from Taco Bell was actually a little difficult to do. This is because they are not currently on the menu. However, where I live in Canada we have Supreme Fries, which is basically the same thing as the US version called Nacho Fries.

One 227 gram serving of Fries Supreme has 520 calories. If you make it using the same brand of ingredients that I use, one serving of my fries has 486 calories. You are getting more food with my version, so you can rest easy knowing you’re saving calories AND staying fuller for longer with more food.

With something so anticipated as adding french fries to the U.S. market, Taco Bell certainly couldn’t just release the product and hope for the best. After several stages of development, Nacho Fries had to be thoroughly tested as a viable menu item.

In 2016, Taco Bell began testing Nacho Fries at their Irvine location in Southern California. According to Brand Eating, the flavor of the seasoning was described as “habanero that wasn’t all that spicy” at the time. Brand Eating also reported that the fries were priced to sell, with an order for only 50 cents or 75 cents if the customer wanted to try the nacho cheese sauce with it.

In 2017, Taco Bell began testing the fries in some stores in West Virginia, and at the time, the stores were selling the product for $1 for both the order of fries and the nacho cheese dipping sauce. After the successful test markets, the fries finally made their way to restaurants with their anticipated nationwide launch.

You Can Even Get The Spicy Loaded Fries Wrapped In A Burrito

Last year, Taco Bell tested a seriously spicy spin on its already beloved Nacho Fries, piling the starchy side with your choice of beef or steak, nacho cheese sauce, tomatoes, more cheddar cheese, and a spicy ranch sauce. But just in case you had any doubt regarding its heat levels, maybe this will debunk that: The sauce blends creamy buttermilk ranch with ghost chili peppers, which have earned a 1,041,427 on the Scoville Heat Units scale.

And now, the Steak White Hot Ranch Fries are here to scorch taste buds nationwide. Taco Bell has brought the creation to its regular menu. Much like its predecessor, the Steak Reaper Ranch Fries, you can choose your fries topped or wrapped into a burrito. The tongue-tingling new fries are available for $2.99 or $3.49 if you go the latter route.

Fans of the Nacho Fries immediately responded to Taco Bell’s tweets announcing the return of the beloved fries.

Taco Bell fans began to tweet back pitches for the next trailer for the fries.

“You start out at Taco Bell BOOM a bunch of Secret Agents bust in there hungry and looking for there Taco Bell exclusive Nacho Fries next thing you know boom Apache Attack helicopter comes out of nowhere on the street youve got these nacho cheese bandits that show up *scene*,” one user tweeted.

The restaurant replied back to the customer intrigued by their idea.

“You have us on our toes. Don’t forget to comment on our thread tomorrow,” Taco Bell wrote.

Some fans were not pleased with the announcement and expressed that they wanted other items to be brought back to the menu instead.

“Should stop bringing back these fries and bring back what really matters. The Volcano Menu,” another user wrote.

Taco Bell creates demand by denying fans their favorite items, and then fulfills that demand by putting it back on the menu. Well, the fans are onto Yum!’s games and are sick of it.

So now that the Nacho Fries have returned, at least for now, what fans really want to know is when will their beloved Mexican Pizza return?

The dish is widely beloved but only sporadically available. It’s supposed to be coming back, but so far we haven’t been given a date yet.

Of course, most people know that french fries are going to come packed with carbs and a sprinkle, or more, of salt. But it turns out, Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries come packed with a whole lot more than your typical order. Just one order of these crazy popular fries contains 630 milligrams of sodium. Yes, some of that is coming from the nacho cheese sauce included in the order, but considering Taco Bell’s order of Chips and Nacho Cheese only comes with 250 milligrams of sodium, the cheese sauce isn’t really where all of that salt is coming from.

In comparison, a large order of McDonald’s french Fries has 400 milligrams of sodium. According to Healthline, the American Heart Association recommends a daily intake of 1,500 milligrams of sodium, while the US Department of Health and Human Services recommends 2,300 milligrams. There are varying recommendations, but either way, Taco Bell’s Nacho Fries puts a pretty big dent in those daily numbers. That amount may be fair for an entire burrito, but is one-quarter of your daily intake worth it for a little snack or side?

Get The Right Fries And The Rest Will Follow

Sorry. This is one recipe where your gourmet, hand-cut, homemade fries just wont work. So save them for another time and get yourself a big bag of Ore-Ida Extra Crispy FAST FOOD FRIES®. If you absolutely cant find them in your local supermarket, look for another brand of extra crispy frozen fries. Whatever you do, dont settle for regular frozen fries. They wont have the crunchy exterior that is needed to stand up to the cheesy sauce.

Once you get the french fries home, if you are lucky enough to have a deep fryer, use it. Really. It is so worth any extra fat and calories. However, if you dont have a deep fryer, then sure, you can use the oven, but know youll lose a lot of the texture that makes the recipe so unique.

First, cook the frozen french fries in a preheated air fryer for 10 minutes at 360 degrees. 9) Dipotassium Phosphate: As an acidity regulator, antioxidant, stabilizer and sequestrant , dipotassium phosphate mainly prevents sauces like this one from going all watery and weird. Just try to avoid eating too many foods with this ingredient: Studies suggest those with kidney disease monitor their dipotassium phosphate intake, as too much phosphorus in the blood can contribute to developing bone, heart and kidney disease.

Nacho Fries Are Taco Bell’s Most Successful New Product

Taco Bell has truly come out with some incredibly creative menu items. Between Doritos Locos Tacos, Double Stacked Tacos, and the forever famed Crunchwrap Supreme, really, it’s hard to believe that something as simple as fries with seasoning could be so ridiculously popular.

Yet, here we are. When Nacho Fries debuted in 2018, Nation’s Restaurant News reported that within just the first five weeks, 53 million orders had been sold. Those numbers put them on track to dethrone the top product holding the crown at the time Doritos Locos Tacos.

Perhaps it was the long wait Taco Bell lovers put up with, or the genius combination of serving up french fries with nacho cheese sauce, but people went wild. “We’re seeing fries in one out of every three orders, compared to one out of every four for DLT,” Matt Prince, a Taco Bell spokesman, told Nation’s Restaurant News regarding the 2018 launch. Apparently, these little morsels of seasoned potatoes were the Taco Bell dish everyone had been waiting for.

Nacho Fries Are Coming Back To Taco Bell

Remember Nacho Fries? You’d be forgiven for forgetting them, given that they disappeared from Taco Bell’s menu in January and, to put it mildly, a lot has happened since then. We also can’t rule out the possibility that the disappearance of these crispy delights set in motion a chain of events the world has yet to recover from.

Admittedly, that’s probably not true. But perhaps in an effort to make sure they can’t somehow save the world, Taco Bell is bringing those Nacho Fries back to menus for a limited time. First introduced in 2018, a Taco Bell press release claims they’ve been served up 347 million times since. That’d mean the average American has had more than one serving of Nacho Fries on average, which seems huge if true.

While the paradigm-destroying minds at Taco Bell tried out some different variations of the nacho fry in the past, including Reaper Ranch, Buffalo Chicken, and Steak Rattlesnake Fries, they’re sticking to the original this time around. That means fries seasoned with Mexican spices and a side of warm nacho cheese sauce. Any time it’s acceptable to dip a fry into nacho cheese, you have to do it.

It’s hard to tell when that “limited time” will come to an end again, but it’s sure looking like there’s a new/old side to look forward to as we turn the calendar to January 2021. May it mark the beginning of a year where we all more literally than ever live mas.
