How To Reheat Pizza

The best cheese for pizza

If you have leftover cheese pizza, I recommend reheating it in the oven at 350F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese starts to bubble up again. You can also reheat pizza in a dry skillet over medium-high heat. Just keep an eye on the slice, as the crust can easily burn in a hot skillet.

Whatever you do, dont reheat pizza in the microwave! I know some sites say to reheat pizza in the microwave with a glass of water to generate steam, but I think using the oven or a skillet is your best bet.

Best Cheese For Pizza

For some, no pizza is complete without it, for others, it is a match to cravings of one of the all-time greats of comfort-food. Cheese has made its way to pizzas since the very first pies were served at open-air stalls by the markets in Naples and the two have been inseparable ever since. Loved by children and grown-ups alike, few can resist melted cheese atop a perfect pizza pie!

Whatever your penchant for flavour or texture, the world of cheese offers plenty of variations in both categories. Simple, complex or decadent, just pick to your liking and dive in! Making cheese cater to other ingredients allows for endless possibilities in combinations of flavour and contrasts, but some actually prefer letting the cheese shine on its own or even as a cheese quintet. Ranging from intense to mild and hard to soft, no cheese is unsuitable as pizza topping

As a garnish or on its own, the demand for cheese-topped pizzas are in high demand and fromage favourites include Mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Provolone, Chevré and Pecorino-Romano, all of which we will guide you through below.

What Other Benefits Can We Get From Cheese

Cheese is a dairy product produced out of cultured milk of cattle, sheep, cow, or goat. It is rich in protein, which helps our body have healthy tissues. Protein also aids the immune system to produce antibodies that keep us away from infections and diseases. It also has calcium, which everyone knows is best for the bones. It contains vitamins A, B-12, riboflavin, omega- 3 fatty acids , zinc, phosphorus, and vitamin K.

Using Goat Cheese On Pizza

Although goat cheese doesnt melt like mozzarella and provolone do, it softens up very nicely when cooked in the oven. Goat cheese makes a great addition to flatbread pizzas, focaccia pizzas, and Mediterranean pizzas. Try dropping small dollops of goat cheese across your pies surface. This will give customers a burst of savory taste as they take every bite.

Difference Between High And Low Moisture Mozzarella

Mozzarella Is the Best Pizza Cheese, Science Says

When making pizza with mozzarella cheese, you can choose between high and low moisture. High moisture mozzarella has a very short shelf life and has to be used within the first day of being made. Low moisture mozzarella has a longer shelf life with a saltier, more dense flavor than high moisture mozzarella. This low moisture component also helps it melt faster when being baked. Low-moisture mozzarella made with whole milk is the best option for pizza, whether it’s being used as the only cheese or added into a cheese blend.

High-Moisture Mozzarella Cheese Characteristics

The Best Mozzarella For Deep Dish Pizza

The mozzarella for Chicago-style deep dish pizza is lowe moisture mozzarella. The reason is that in that the cheese is under the cause, something that will trap moisture. Since you have so much sauce, you dont want to add additional moisture. To create a barrier between the crust and the sauce, sliced lowe moisture mozzarella is your bet. Then you can top that with shredded cheese if you like.

  • Cheeses to avoid on pizza: processed cheese or oily cheeses such as Velveeta, American cheese and Cheddar or pre-shredded cheese.

Branching Out From Mozzarella

Youve decided: Enough with the takeout! This weekend were having homemade pizza. You make your favorite cool-rise dough, one that develops flavor overnight in the refrigerator. You slow-simmer a batch of your aunts secret tomato sauce. At last, youre ready to put your pizza together, so you get out the mozzarella cheese but wait. Is mozzarella really the best cheese for pizza? Or can other varieties offer mozzarellas signature meltability, but with a richer, more complex flavor?

Lets find out.

One of lifes sublime experiences is grabbing a triangle of hot pizza and seeing melted cheese stretch itself into aromatic strands as your hand moves from pan to mouth.

Mozzarella, Americas favorite pizza cheese, is all about the ooey-gooey textural experience but how does it stack up, flavor-wise?

The block of mozzarella youd typically use is pretty plain if you ask me. Sure, its got some of the milky/tangy flavor of cheese in general, but all in all, its fairly neutral. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing: paired with spicy sausage or hot peppers, mozzarella is the perfect foil.

But what about a pizza topped with the gentle flavors of mushroom and bell pepper, or black olives and onions? Wouldnt it be nice to beef things up with a more interesting cheese all without sacrificing meltability ?

Consider meltability

What about stretchability?

Lets gather some traditional pizza cheeses and put them to the test.

New York Pizza Dough Recipe

The Best 3

Great pizza starts with great pizza dough! For the crust youll need:

  • Bread Flour: This is a high-gluten flour that has a tiny amount of barley flour and vitamin C added. The barley flour helps the yeast activate, and the vitamin C increases the elasticity of the gluten and its ability to retain gas as the dough rises and bakes. Bread flour is typically used for recipes like pizza dough and garlic knots because of the chewiness that the extra gluten provides.
  • Sugar: Granulated sugar works best here.
  • Active dry yeast: Be sure your yeast is not expired.
  • Kosher salt: Table salt will also work.
  • Water: Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature is between 110 and 115 degrees .
  • Olive Oil: Youll need this for the crust as well as greasing the bowl the dough will rise in.

Homemade Extra Cheese Pizza

A simple recipe for extra cheese pizza on top of the best homemade pizza dough.

My husbands favorite food is pizza. He likes it plain and simple. A lot of cheese. Sometimes Hawaiian, sometimes BBQ chicken. But most of the time: extra cheese.

I, on the other hand, am all about the extras. I like my pizza with fun toppings like roasted eggplant, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, figs, butternut squash, and honey.

But one thing we can agree on: really good crust. Puffy, chewy, and thick pizza crust.

Where Should Toppings Go

Unfortunately, the answer is a little more complex than you may have thought and it all revolves around what toppings you are choosing to put on your pizza.

The main thing to think about when deciding when to put toppings on a pizza is how the toppings will hold up in the oven. When you bake a pizza, you use a very hot, dry oven which can cook foods very quickly. This high heat will have a great effect on your toppings, especially if they are placed on top of the cheese.

If you have ingredients that are very sensitive to hot, dry temperatures, you will want to bury them under the cheese on the pizza, protecting them from the oven heat. Think about it this way- if you put your favorite pizza topping on a sheet tray all by itself and placed it in the oven, what would happen? Would it burn quickly? Would it get dry and crunchy? Or would it stay soft and tender, allowing the oven to enhance its taste?

The answers to this question will determine when to put the topping on the pizza. Toppings that will get dry and burn, hide under the cheese. Pizza toppings that benefit from heat, keep on top of the cheese.

So, as a general rule, consider if your toppings will become dry and crisp when exposed to the hot oven. If so, they should be buried under the cheese. If the toppings will hold up well to the heat, put them right on top of that cheese!

The Best Mozzarella For Thick Crust Pizza

The best mozzarella for thick-crust pizza is fresh low-moisture mozzarella. Thick-crust pizza requires longer baking time at a lower temperature. Fresh Italian mozzarella contains a bit too much moisture, that will prevent the crust from crisping. And when you have long baking time, the starches in pre-shredded mozzarella are likely to burn.

The Test And What We Were Looking For

The Best 3

Lets get realits hard to judge a pizza! You have to bear in mind the crust, the toppings, how long it took for the pizza to be delivered and so, so much more. To make this test as fair as possible, I placed the exact same order at every pizza chain: a medium pepperoni pizza and a medium cheese. I kept with whatever the standard crust option was and didnt opt for any extrasno extra cheese, no extra toppings, no extra seasoning blends baked onto the crust.

I also limited this test to pick-up and delivery pizza standards :

  • Dominos
  • Papa Johns
  • Pizza Hut

When it came to the judging criteria, my testing team and I were looking for a satisfying pizza that had good toppings and plenty of them. We wanted gooey, melty cheese, crispy crust, great sauce and a good ratio between all these. Most importantly, though, we were looking for a pizza that made us want to go back for another slice and order another pie the next week. To guarantee you get the perfect za at home, try this recipe.
