Which Cheese Is Best For A Grilled Cheese Sandwich
In terms of the contents, I usually just go with sharp cheddar, but if you want to shake things up a bit, heres my top three favorites:
I know people who recommend adding bacon, broccoli or even sweet potatos as weird as that sounds but remember, if youre adding stuff to the cheese its no longer a grilled cheese sandwich but a melt.
The Best Air Fryer Grilled Cheese
Anyone else grow up heating bread and cheese in the microwave on unsupervised afternoons at home? The results were always terrible, with mushy bread and melted cheese that got everywhere but hey, you had a hot cheese sandwich to hold you over until dinnertime, and you didnt have to turn on the stove.
Thinking back on those early 90s afternoons, I really wish the air fryer had been around. I could have made the perfect grilled cheese sandwiches that my own kids make today, which turn out incredible every single time even when they use pre-grated cheese and basic sandwich bread.
Suffice it to say that the air fryer is the answer to always crispy, always gooey grilled cheese sandwiches. Heres how to make them and maybe teach your kids to make them, too.

Reheat In Frying Pan Add Butter And Lid Or Tinfoil
Possibly the best way, but it requires the most cleanup. You simply need to re-fry the sandwich, but you have to put either a lit of a tinfoil tent on it.
Use medium heat, maybe even lower and heat for a longer time. Otherwise the outside will fry up and the inside will get barely warm. So add a bit of butter back into the pan, put the sandwich in, and put a lid or tinfoil tent on it. The point is to trap heat, and allow steam to do its thing.
The steam will both soften the bread but also warm it. When the sandwich is warmed through, simply remove the lid and tinfoil, and fry on each side until the bread is nice and crispy again.

Thanks for sharing. I have a different variation for doing this. I put 2 pieces of bread into 1 side of the toaster. That way both pieces of bread have 1 side that doesn’t get toasted. When the toaster is done with them I LIGHTLY butter the toasted side of each piece of bread. Then place 1 of the slices buttered side down on the plate, add cheese, cover with the remaining piece of “bread” uncooked side down. My microwave only takes about 15 seconds to melt the cheese and not over do it, not quite as long as yours, and others may need to adjust the time to their microwave. Also, with my method, some toasters require that all the slots be filled and may require someone to make more than one grilled cheese at a time. Your method will work better than mine for people only wanting to make 1 grilled cheese, that have one of those toasters.

The classic version is made with just American cheese. However, I like to add cheddar cheese to add extra flavor and richness. You can use any type of sliced or shredded cheese you like such as Gruyere, mozzarella, pimento cheese, parmesan, blue cheese, monterey jack or even white cheddar. Use a variety of cheeses together to add your own unique flavor.

- Use other cheeses I tend to go for American cheese or Havarti cheese. However, you dont have to stick with that. In fact, you can use whatever cheese you like most. Gouda is always a crowd favorite along with pepper jack, cheddar, etc.
- Add spices You can add some flavor to your sandwich by sprinkling the outside with some spices. Granulated garlic, onion powder, whatever youre feeling or pairing it with should be your seasoning guide.
- Add parmesan cheese to the outside I love sprinkling some parmesan cheese over the buttered sides of the bread before cooking. It gives it an extra cheesy flavor.
- Butter the inside too If youre an extra buttery person, you can butter both sides of the bread slices. It adds quite a boost of flavoring.
- Use other bread options You dont have to stick with basic white sandwich bread. You can use brioche, homemade bread, whole grain bread, whatever youre feeling or have on hand at the time.
- Make it spicy Add some crushed red peppers to the outside of your sandwich before cooking it. This adds a little kick to your grilled cheese and its delicious!
- Add some tomato and crispy bacon.

Can I Use Parchment Paper In Toaster
It can be used safely in the toaster oven and will save some clean-up time. Size the paper to the toaster oven tray and use scissors to cut it down if necessary. Though it is designed not to burn in oven heat, it will burn if directly touching a heat source. Use the parchment paper as you would in a standard oven.
What Pan To Use
I prefer to use my cast iron skillet as it maintains a consistent heat better and gives a superior crispy surface. A nonstick skillet works well and prevents sticking if using sweeter types of bread. In either case, you want to use very moderate heat for making the sandwiches, about medium-low or low if the bread is toasting too quickly.

What you want to avoid is the microwave, mostly because it can get you very inconsistent results and youll often end up with a soggy mess. So the main options are the frying pan, broiler, panini press and the likes.
All of these require you to take the sandwich out of the fridge and let it get to room temperature . Otherwise the difference between the outside and inside will be too much, especially if its a thick one with lots of cheese.

Can I Reheat Grilled Cheese In A Microwave
Look, you can reheat grilled cheese in the microwave just fine. The only problem is that you need to use a lid or cover, otherwise some parts will get extra dry and some will get no heat.
But if you do this, you trap steam and end up with a soft, possibly soggy sandwich. We think this can be fixed, but it involves a frying pan. In which case youre better off using it from the start.
But if youre at work or in a hurry and dont mind the change in texture than go right ahead and microwave it, no one will stop you. The taste will be mostly the same.
And thats about it about grilled cheese ! Hopefully you found a way that works for you and you can enjoy it the day after. If youve got any other food curiosities be sure to check the related articles below, were always adding more food facts to make your life that much easier.
The grilled cheese plays varied roles in our livesit may be the lunchtime diner order: two slices of white bread with gooey American cheese. It may be the late-night snack: leftover whole wheat with slices of Swiss eaten after a stressful day, à la The Devil Wears Prada. And, more and more often, it maybe be gourmet: great artisan bread, imported cheese, and fresh vegetables.
Thats the situation here. We matched slices of sourdough bread with Danish fontina cheese, which melts into an extraordinarily gooey filling. Weve also stuffed summer heirloom tomatoes, spicy leaves of rocket, and rings of red onion in between the bread.

Why Should You Not Microwave Cheese
Your cheese is likely to be melted in a microwave most likely. Chunks of white meat, such as cheese, can melt if they reach a temperature of 90o F or higher, where their solid milk fats become boiling. By keeping the microwave running, you will notice a bead of melted fat forming in your cheese when you stir repeatedly.
