How To Crumble Goat Cheese For Salads And Other Recipes
Nowadays most supermarkets sell crumbled goat cheese in their cheese section. However, you can easily crumble a log of fresh goat cheese in your own kitchen.
To crumble goat cheese at home:
- Remove a log of fresh goat cheese from its packaging, cut it in half, and place it in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes. This will help dry out some of its moisture.
- Take it out of the freezer and immediately break it into small parts with the help of a fork. I do not recommend using your fingers to do this as the temperature of your body will melt the cheese and make it too creamy to crumble.

Out of all the DIYs Ive done over the last few years, I think cheese-making is one of the ones that has truly revolutionized my spending habits. I honestly barely ever buy cheese at a store now because its so easy to make batches at home that I can flavor how I want, know exactly what went into them, and this homemade goats cheese is no different.
Plus, the process for making homemade cheese is FAR simpler than you may be imagining if youre a complete newbie. This creamy goat cheese uses a coagulation method, which means that we combine the goats milk with heat and acid. This then breaks down the milk into curds and whey. The curds are what we collect and drain to become our cheese its as simple as that!
Theres honestly no specialty equipment you even need for this method other than cheesecloth and a thermometer .

I am actually very proud to say that I recently taught a French student and friend, Hélène how to make goat cheese. Goat cheese or chèvre as it is known in France is her favorite cheese. She was amazed. “I am going to teach my dad.” she said. She started to rattle off all the wonderful dishes one can make with goat cheese including a tomato tart with goat cheese and basil that sounds positively fabulous.
Yes, I will extract the recipe from her and post it. Hélène also likes to drizzle honey over her goat cheese. She advises the use of a honey without a distinctive flavor. I haven’t tried this yet, but you can bet the goat farm I will! The steps to make this are pretty easy.
