Securing Downtown: Mayor Pledges To Find Solution To Late

Harrisburg officials plan to meet with business owners in the citys downtown entertainment district to help prevent a recurrence of the turmoil that resulted in numerous fights and left two people with gunshot wounds early Sunday morning.
Mayor Eric Papenfuse said he is arranging meetings with bar, club and restaurant owners along 2nd Street to share ideas on how to improve safety, especially following late-night closing time.
Its going to require the cooperation of the bar and restaurant owners, he said. There may be things they can do to make the downtown safer.
At about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Harrisburg police put out a call for assistance after they found they could not control a crowd estimated at more than 1,000 people along a two-block stretch of N. 2nd Street. According to police, fistfights broke out near Locust Street, followed by more fights at Pine Street that resulted in two people shot being shot in the leg. The crowd in the street was so large that officers had trouble getting to the area of the shooting, police said.
According to Harrisburg Police Chief Thomas Carter, no arrests have yet been made in the shooting.
Papenfuse said he would be willing to consider numerous options, from realigning police resources to collecting a fee from business owners to pay for extra security.

Sale Of Stores To Walgreens
On October 27, 2015, Walgreens announced that it would acquire Rite Aid for $9.4 billion, pending regulatory and shareholder approval. The deal would have resulted in a merger of two of the United States’ three largest pharmacy chains. Walgreens planned to keep the Rite Aid name on existing stores when the deal went through, though the long-term plans for the Rite Aid name were unknown. On December 21, 2016, it was announced that Fred’s would acquire 865 Rite Aid stores as a result of the merger for $950 million, for antitrust reasons. In January 2017, Rite Aid and Walgreens cut the price of the merger to approximately $6.8 billion and delayed the merger by six months. On January 31, 2017, it was reported that the workers’ union 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, representing 6,000 Rite Aid Corp workers, was opposed to the sale of the Rite Aid stores to Fred’s Inc.
On June 29, 2017, Walgreens announced the merger was canceled, adding that it would be purchasing 2,186 stores from Rite Aid for $5.2 billion plus a $325 million penalty for canceling. Most experts had thought that the merger would be completed within a few weeks. The merger would have had about 46% of the market share. The revised dealnow not including Fred’s at alleffectively would have seen Rite Aid exit the southeastern United States.

After starting as a vendor in Saturdays Market in Middletown, owner Will Horn recently opened his first brick-and-mortar store on the ground floor of the recently renovated downtown apartment building, the Bogg on Cranberry. At Tiki Ts, customers order through a take-out window and stroll away with a bag or bucket of tiny donuts, in a variety of flavors. Horn said that the line can get long when the downtown bars close up and disgorge their late-night, weekend crowds, which really isnt surprising at all.

Merger With Eckerd And Brooks
On August 23, 2006, the Wall Street Journal announced that Rite Aid would be buying the Eckerd Pharmacy and Brooks Pharmacy chains from the Quebec-based Jean Coutu Group for US$3.4 billion, and merging the two chains into one dominant pharmacy system. The company’s shareholders overwhelmingly approved the merger on January 18, 2007. After some store closures and the conversion of the two chains was completed, Rite Aid became the dominant drug store retailer in the Eastern U.S., and the third largest drug retailer nationwide .
Similar to what CVS experienced in the Chicago metropolitan area after its purchase of Albertsons drug store chains, the deal gave Rite Aid stores that were too close to each other. In many situations, especially in Pennsylvania, where both chains were dominant and had roots in the Commonwealth , there were, in some cases, neighboring Rite Aid stores. However, in March 2008, some of these overlapping stores were closed. Most of these stores that closed were pre-existing Rite Aids from before the Eckerd deal, since Eckerd had built newer, more modern stores with drive-through pharmacies and larger space under ownership of both JCPenney and Jean Coutu Group and the “moved to” sites were converted Eckerds. Employees at the closed stores were transferred to nearby ones, so no layoffs were necessary.
With the acquisition of Brooks Eckerd, at its peak in 2008, Rite Aid had a total of 5,059 stores and employed 112,800 people.

How Do You Make Beer Cheese Soup
First, melt butter in a large pot. Add celery, carrots, onions and garlic and cook until onions are translucent and vegetables are tender. If you like a smooth soup, use an immersion blender now.
Next, add the flour and cook, stirring to get rid of lumps. Add the beer and cook until thickened.
Then, slowly pour in chicken broth and the half and half. Simmer until soup starts to thicken, stirring occasionally. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
Finally, add in the cheddar cheese a little bit at a time. Stir constantly until it has melted completely. Top with cooked bacon and green onion.

What Does Cvs Pharmacy Sell Is It A Pharmacy/grocery Store
Hi All
I just want to know is CVS also a grocery store like Walmart? Reason Im asking is cause I getting a taxi to my hotel, and some are chargin extra for a grocery stop.
Thier will be a CVS store within walkin distance to my hotel, so was wondering if its got a grocery section for me to pick up bits like cereal, bread, drinks, and a few other little things. Obviously as the title suggest I know its a chemist, but just wanted to know can I pick up other bits also?

CVS & Walgreens are kind of like a mini Walmart. They have a chemist but they also have a variety of other items. Shampoo, soap, makeup, cleaning supplies, books, toys, sunscreens and a small area of basic food items. Milk, soda chips, cookies, etc. However the price they charge is very high. You cannot do a complete grocery shop here as they only have about 2 aisles for food. If you only need a couple of things it will be fine. Have you checked to see if any other grocery stores might be near by? We have Publx, Winn Dixie, Albertsons and Aldi. Also some Target stores are now like Walmart with a complete grocery store and pharmacy inside.
Maybe one of these stores is closer to your hotel.

Taste Of Pa: New Downtown Concept To Feature Pa Beer Wines Spirits Food
In downtown Harrisburg, Mulligans is being reborn as a new tasting room.
Its been said that that technology has turned us all into seekers of novelty.
If thats true, a new concept in downtown Harrisburg should benefit from our constant desire for something new.
On Thursday, long-time Harrisburg club and restaurant owner Ron Kamionka plans to debut Hops, Vines & Spirits Tasting Room in the former home of Mulligans Courtyard & Café on N. 2nd Street.
The plan, said Kamionka, is to feature a rotating menu of beer, wine, spirits and food from Pennsylvania producers.
Were really excited for the opportunity to showcase Pennsylvania productswhether its a craft brewery or a local butcher shop or cheese makerright in downtown Harrisburg, Kamionka said.
Kamionka said that he expects to host two PA breweries, two wineries and one distillery per month.
The debut lineup this weekend includes beer from St. Boniface Brewing Co. , beer and cider from Wyndridge Farm , wine from Broad Mountain Vineyard and Moon Dancer Vineyards & Winery and spirits from Tattered Flag Brewery & Distillery .
Patrons will be able to order by the glass or for takeout, with a bottle shop on premises. Flights will also be available to allow customers to sample small quantities of both drink and food.
Kamionka plans to feature numerous Harrisburg-area craft food producers, including products from Knead Pizza, Urban Churn ice cream, Anna Rose Bakery and 717 Tacos.
