Are Tostitos Nachos Gluten Free

The Answer is: YES. Tostitos Tortilla Chips are gluten-free. Frito-Lay has been very kind enough to list all their gluten-free products here. In the Tostitos range, the following products are gluten-free and safe for consumption if you are sensitive to gluten or suffer from Celiac Disease.

Naturally Gluten Free Ingredients Of Tostitos Queso

Tostitos offers two delicious varieties of Queso dipping sauces, the Queso Blanco Dip and the Salsa Con Queso. The Queso Blanco Dip is a medium-spicy dip with jalapenos and red bell peppers. The Salsa Con Queso also contains fresh tomatoes for a bit of tang. Take a look at the ingredients of the cheese dips.

Queso Blanco Dip contains Monterey jack cheese and cheddar cheese as the base and whey and buttermilk. Modified corn starch and maltodextrin are used as texturizers in the sauce. Both of these are free from gluten. It also contains other flavor enhancers like MSG, added flavors, Datem, and many more.

All the other ingredients like yeast extract, flavors, citric acid, acetic acid, disodium guanylate, disodium inosinate, sodium phosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, canola oil, sunflower oil, sugar, and salt are all naturally gluten free. So are jalapenos, red peppers, and milk protein concentrate used in the sauce.

The Salsa Con Queso contains most of these ingredients, with a few changes and alternatives. For instance, it has tomatoes and no cheddar cheese. It also has spices and soy lecithin. So this Queso sauce, too, is naturally gluten free. But they are not the ideal sauces for you if youre allergic to soy or dairy.

But once again

Everything that goes into both these dips is naturally gluten-free by general standards.

Note, all the standards and claims by Frito-Lay can differ based on the country.

What Do You Mean By Questionable Ingredients

Questionable ingredients are basically any and every ingredient that may be associated with animal suffering, and which stricter vegans stand heavily against.

These ingredients are usually:

Refined sugar: There is no mistake that sugar is a plant-based ingredient. However, certain sugar companies in the United States use a decolorizing and deashing agent called bone char, which is essentially obtained by carbonizing the bone of cattle. Feel free to learn more about it here.

Natural flavors: The term natural flavors is used to describe any plant or animal-based ingredient that can be used in foods. In other words, natural flavors can be a non-vegan ingredient, but companies are not required to reveal its source.

For example, if you check the Salsa Ranchera variety, the natural flavor actually contains milk. That information is available on that specific products page. Learn more about it here.

Artificial Ingredients: Before artificial ingredients are deemed safe to be used in products, they first need to be tested. Unfortunately, those tests are typically conducted on animals, which is obviously something most people in the vegan community are against.

Take artificial colors, for instance. Artificial colors are periodically tested because of their seemingly unending potential health problems. Here are two tests conducted in 2017 and 2018.

    • Chips: I used Tostitos scoops. Keep in mind that theres always a number of broken ones in the bag, so if you want a full tray to bring to a party, pick up two bags so youll have enough intact scoop chips to use.
    • Guacamole. I used my homemade gluten-free guacamole because it is so easy and so flavorful. You could also use store bought guacamole that is gluten-free. Just be sure your guacamole has a good amount of lemon or lime juice so that it doesnt turn an unappealing brown color as it sits out at the party. Also, if you use another homemade recipe, make sure it isnt too wet. Mine is not too wet, and my chips dont get soggy quickly.
    • Cherry or grape tomatoes are perfect to give you firm, small slices for these.
    • Cilantro a little goes a long way for flavor! I only put a little bit of cilantro on each chip, but if you really want the cilantro to pop, then feel free to add more.
    • Cheese Including cheese is totally optional. Feel free to use your favorite, Ive used shredded Cheddars and also the shredded cheese labeled Mexican 4 cheese. You could also use dairy-free cheese in these.

Thats it! Only 4 ingredients 5 if you add cheese!
