Perhaps the best word to describe Simply Nature Organic Macaroni & Cheese from Aldi is neutral. Its definitely not bad, but its not exactly packed with flavor either. Like many of Aldis products, its a relatively obvious rip-off of the standard Kraft Original, but the cheese might be slightly sharper in this iteration of the boxed classic. Make it for your kids, and theyre probably going to gobble it up. Adults, we wont judge if you eat it straight from the pot after a long day of work when you just cant be bothered to make a real meal. But youre not going to convince anyone it didnt come out of a box from a budget store, even with the most elaborate upgrades and enhancements. If youre already at Aldi, you shouldnt turn it down if youre craving mac and cheese. But we wouldnt go out of our way for it.

Love Macaroni And Cheese Try These Recipes

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Shred the cheese.
  • Prepare the elbow pasta according to package directions.
  • In a medium-size pot over medium heat, add butter and flour. Cook and stir continuously for about 1 minute. The flour paste should become fragrant.
  • Slowly add milk in thirds and stir until it has thickened before adding the next portion of milk.
  • Slowly add shredded cheese to the milk mixture. Make sure all cheese melts completely before adding the next portion of cheese.
  • Add dry mustard powder and paprika and stir well.
  • Drain pasta. Stir pasta into cheese sauce.
  • Place the cheese and pasta mixture in a large 2-quart baking dish.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.
  • If desired, turn oven to broil and allow the top of the mac and cheese to brown a moment or two before serving.

Stouffers has played it somewhat close to the vest regarding the details of this device. Although the social media posts have thousands of likes, shares and comments, the company has yet to divulge whether this might be available for home use or seen only in restaurants, although its likely destined for convenience stores. We also dont know if it has other applications.

However, the company did respond to questions and comments on their posts.

  • Prepare pasta according to package instructions.
  • Melt butter in a medium-sized pot over medium heat. Add flour, stir and cook for 1 minute.

    Stouffers Mac And Cheese Food Truck

    The Stouffers Food Truck made a special stop in Santa Monica this week!

    It was an absolutely gorgeous day to be outside in the Southern California sun. The truck parked on Ocean Avenue near Santa Monica Blvd. The skies were blue and the view of the Pacific and Santa Monica Pier were stunning. It was a lovely day for a comfort food lunch.

    As you can see, this was not your ordinary, plain macaroni and cheese. Chef Vendome added unique and interesting toppings to regular Stouffers Mac & Cheese turning it into something out of the ordinary.

    Others enjoyed their pasta with meaty toppings, including Buffalo Chicken. They had a vegetarian option with popcorn on top.

    I discovered that when it comes to mac and cheese, Im a purist and prefer mine plain. With other foods, I tend to be adventurous but didnt need anything extra added to the Stouffers.

    A special guest showed up to get some lunch from the food truck Emjay Anthony. He is one of the stars of the new movie Chef that is being released on May 9th. The rated R movie is about a chef, a food blogger, divorced parents and a food truck. 10 year old Emjay plays the son of the chef.

    Our Veggie Experience At The Stouffers Mac And Cheese Truck

    As weve mentioned, the Stouffers Mac and Cheese Truck is in town for 3 weeks, serving 5 different toppings over their macaroni & cheese for $4 a bowl. They are also raising money for Hurricane Sandy Relief, which Congress has been very slow to act upon.

    Before leaving the office, we had our mind made up BBQ Pork Mac & Cheese but the best laid plans of mice and men, etc, etc. When we arrived at the truck, the Veggie Mac & Cheese looked much more interesting on the menu.

    Were trying to be more open-minded lately, including eating more vegetarian meals, so that we changed our mind and got the Veggie Mac & Cheese for $4.

    Opening the lid, it was a very nice display that Stouffers Mac and Cheese Truck provides. You could see sweet potatoes, roasted squash, grilled onions, leaves of baby spinach, pumpkin seeds, and a sauce. From the smell, you could tell it was a curried yogurt sauce. The curry odor was unmistakable, but not overpowering.

    We had to eat through the veggies on top before getting to the mac & cheese, which was a pleasant experience. The veggies were fresh, and the curried yogurt sauce was a good accompaniment with starchy vegetables like sweet potato and squash.

    Under the veggies was the mac and cheese. The menu said the pasta was freshly made, but it was way too soft for our taste. We would suggest a few minutes less for the cooking time.

    The cheese sauce was made with a fairly mild cheddar, and wasnt anything distinctive.

    Kraft Deluxe White Cheddar & Garlic Herbs

    As a mac and cheese staple, you had to expect to see a Kraft product again but were more excited about this one. The Kraft Deluxe White Cheddar and Garlic Herbs is putting an elevated twist on the classic box meal. The white cheddar has a sharper taste than the original, which will likely appeal to everyone who grew up on Kraft but has since managed to refine their taste. The herb flavoring, while not very strong, lends a different, unexpected flavor to the dish thats overall pretty good.

    Its still your classic Kraft recipe though: the cheap noodles, the powder, the suspiciously long list of ingredients. None of these traits are what many consumers today are looking for. Instead of buying the cheapest food possible, people want healthy, natural food that aligns with the ethos of clean eating and that could be exactly where Kraft has gone wrong.     Weve already talked about the sin of trying to make mac and cheese healthy, so its not a surprise that Banza Elbows & Classic Cheddar is next on the chopping block. Its made with chickpea pasta, which is what sets it apart from its bleached-flour cousins. The cheese is a classic cheddar, which is likely an attempt to equate it with more classic mac and cheese options like Kraft. Now, chickpea pasta can be delicious, but is it really the best type of pasta for mac and cheese? Judging by Banzas recipe, no. The cheese sauce can be watery, and its all but sure to be flavorless. And to top it all off, you dont even get much in a single package unless you buy a family size. Mac and cheese is about indulging, but youre not going to be able to fill a big bowl with a normal portion of this stuff.

    If youre left with no other options and have to pick up some Stouffers to cure your mac and cheese craving, the least you can do is upgrade it. By adding protein, spices, and even some breadcrumbs, you may be able to save this less-than-appealing freezer meal.
