It’s difficult to screw up a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich because even the worst BECs are still kind of good. Still, I was skeptical of a TikTok recipe that promised to cook it all at once in an air fryer.

How would the recipe fully cook bacon, while not burning bread, while still melting the cheese, and managing to produce a decent egg? Hungry and in need of a sandwich, I set to test that recipe for this week’s AirFryDay. And you know what, not too spoil too much, my skepticism was misplaced. It was actually a pretty good and incredibly easy recipe.

The idea , which has racked up some 1.3 million views. It’s a pretty straightforward recipe, there’s no real trick to it, but here are the basic details.

How To Make It

  • Preheat the oven to 400f and set the 2 racks in the center of the oven. Place wire racks on foil-lined baking sheets and lay the bacon out. Bake the bacon for approximately 25 minutes at 400f. Note: Cooking time will vary based on the thickness of the bacon. I’m using thick-cut Boar’s Head bacon. Thinner bacon can take as little as 12 minutes to cook. Just keep an eye on the bacon and check frequently.
  • Once the bacon is cooked to your liking place it to the side and keep tented with foil to keep warm. You can also keep it in the oven at 170f to keep warm. Cut the 4 deli rolls now and place each one opened up on a piece of parchment paper large enough to completely wrap around the sandwich.
  • Heat a nonstick pan to medium heat and add a teaspoon of butter.
  • Crack two eggs into the pan. If you don’t want over-easy eggs crack the yolk with your spatula tool. Tip: Cracking the eggs on a flat surface like a plate is better than using the side of the pan. Most of the time the yolks won’t break and you’ll get no shells in the pan.
  • Turn the eggs after about 2 minutes or once they harden up enough so that they can be easily flipped.
  • Place two slices of cheese onto one egg and sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of water into the pan. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid. Tip: This is the easiest way to create steam and melt the cheese fast. I used this trick often working at delis when I was young.

    The step of toasting the rolls in the pan with a bit of butter makes all the difference, so try not to skip that.

    When you are cooking the eggs you are thinking more along the lines of an omelet, letting the eggs firm up on the bottom, and lifting the sides so the runny eggs can run underneath. But you know what? If you want to scramble them and add the cheese towards the end you do that. Perfection is hardly the goal here the eggs are going into a sandwich for heavens sake.

    Sprinkle over the cheese, and fold over the sides so you have a rectangular omelet. I used Havarti, but again, its very flexible. Cheddar, American cheese, Monterey jack Pepper Jack, all good options.

  • Throw the bacon lardons into a cold non-stick pan and then put that on medium heat. Cook that until the bacon browns and gets crispy. But you are not gonna cut it until its crispy in the pan. If your bacon is crispy in the pan, it’s going to be overcooked and brittle once it cools. So when you can see the bacon fat has rendered nicely and is browned and the bacon meat is browned its probably ready even if it’s not crispy yet. Then strain the fat into a bowl and let them cool. As they cool, youll see them start to firm up and become crisp. You want there to still be a little meaty texture in there.
