Best Cheese For Cold Sandwiches

In this recipe, I use some mature Irish cheddar cheese which is just wonderful and tasty and easy for us to purchase locally. I always prefer using an older and more matured cheese for these type of sandwiches. My preference is also to use cheese I have sliced myself rather than processed cheese slices. I just think it tastes better.

But of course, again the options are infinite. Different countries all have their own different cheeses and you will find that many of them, even though perhaps not what you are used to eating, are quite delicious.

If you are in Switzerland for example, you may find some slices of Emmentaler or Gruyère in your ham and cheese sandwich.

When we lived in the Netherlands, a slice of medium strength Gouda cheese would normally find its way into the lunchtime sandwiches. All these cheeses will change the character of your sandwich, so choose what you prefer.

Broil The Bagel Breakfast Sandwich

Place the bagel halves back into the oven under the broiler . Re-heat only until cheese begins to melt, and the bagel breakfast sandwich is re-heated.

Remove bagel halves from oven. Place the half bagel with the ham on top of the other half. Ta-Da! Your breakfast sandwich is now ready to devour!

I cut mine in half, just so I could show you the inside of the bagel breakfast sandwich in all of its glorious bagely-eggy-cheesy-hammy goodness!

This bagel breakfast sandwich was so good dont think I will be eating lunch, because it was pretty filling! Hope youll consider making these for your family. Better Than The Croissanwich Ham And Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches

My love for the Croissant Breakfast Sandwich started at Burger King. Yes, you heard that right. My first introduction to this Ferrari of sandwiches was at a fast food joint. And not even the best fast food joint, lets be real.

Still, I refuse to apologize for my love of the Croissanwich. I loved every bit of it, from the square eggs and American cheese to the soft, buttery croissant packaging.

That ham and cheese croissant sandwich is what convinced me to get out of bed for church on Sunday mornings. Id love to tell you it was righteous zeal that had me rushing to get ready, but no. It was the thought of the BK drive thru and scarfing down a Croissanwich on the way to church.

Of course, as I got older I realized this croissant sandwich had little resemblance to the giant, shiny, flaky pastries you find in a French bakery.

But thats the incredible thing about croissants. The store bought ones cant compare to homemade, and still theyre amazing.

Today, Im recreating my favorite sandwich with a little grown-up flair. No square eggs or paper wrappers in sight.

These Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches will make you want to hop out of bed any day of the week. Best of all? You can easily make extras to store in the fridge, so youll have a breakfast thats even faster than the drive thru.

A good grilled cheese is a thing of beauty.

Its easy. Comforting. Brings you back to childhood. Somehow, a warm, gooey grilled cheese makes things feel just a little bit better.

Grilled cheese and soup night is certainly a thing in our house. There are just some days where you are too exhausted to cook or the weight of life is just a bit too heavy. You know those days.

When I do not want to cook, and when I need some comfort food, a grilled cheese is a go-to. Its a once in a while treat, its nostalgic, and its delicious.

Not to mention, a grilled cheese is so versatile. Like this buttery, brunch-worthy grilled ham and cheese with a perfectly fried egg, peppery arugula, and tangy, bold Dijon mustard.

One morning, I created this grilled ham and cheese using ingredients I had on hand. I was inspired by a combination of the classic Croque Madame meets grilled cheese sandwich.

My secret to an amazing grilled cheese sandwich? Dijon mustard.

Hear me out.

I first learned of making grilled cheese with mustard when I saw Alton Brown do it on TV, and have been obsessed since. Dijon mustard gives a grilled cheese sandwich a whole new depth of bold, spicy flavor.

Best Bread For Ham And Cheese Sandwich

We tend to make our ham and cheese sandwiches with a multigrain bread from Aldi which makes it a pretty healthy ham cheese sandwich. But again, the possibilities are endless.

On the continent, in France, a baguette is the most used bread for a jambon et fromage sandwich. But you can of course use whatever you have available where you are. A few nice slices of fresh crusty sourdough, some soft white sliced bread or even some nice baps are all great for making a good ham and cheese sandwich.

Basically, make it with what you have available, and if you are putting it in your lunchbox, then keep it in a bag or airtight container to keep it fresh for longer.

You can also add a bit of mustard of your choice to the sandwich to make a ham mustard sandwich if you like. It does spice the sandwich up a bit more and give it a bit of kick. Some hot English Colmans mustard or some milder French Dijon mustard either will do the trick!

In most of these pictures, I have used some thinly cut ham from Aldi, but you could also try boiling and baking your own ham and using some homemade ham slices like in this ham sandwich picture below.

    Homecooked ham sandwich

Home baked ham really does make a terrific sandwich , as the glaze also adds a lot of taste to the ham. We eat quite a lot of homecooked ham, especially around Christmas time.

The choices of ham are of course these days also quite plentiful. So rather than some simple Aldi ham, why not treat yourself to some dry-aged Spanish Serrano ham, Italian Prosciutto or French jambon if you can get some? All delicious in a ham and cheese sandwich.

    How To Freeze Make

Ideally you wrap the breakfast sandwiches in parchmentpaper, then store in a freezer baggie. Freeze for up to 3 months. Youcan freeze longer, but the texture may start to degrade or ice crystals mightform.

I like the parchment paper because it keeps the sandwichesintact in the freezer and you can reheat in the wrapper. Its truly a grab and go breakfast. The wrapper also keeps the sandwich in tactwhile walking or driving.

You can also place the biscuits directly in the freezerbag. Squeeze as much air out whenclosing. Then when you are ready toreheat, put the ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on a paper towel and reheatfor 1-2 minutes, depending on your microwave. Sometimes you need the longer time to heat all the way through.

If you are reheating several biscuits then put in the ovenat 350, covered with foil, for about 15-20 minutes or until heatedthrough. This is the ideal method. Butcome on, if you are only reheating one or two biscuits the microwave just makessense.

Optional: Spread thebiscuits with butter on both halves. This isnt necessary, but it does add an extra buttery taste to thesandwiches.

Cut the cooked eggs with a round cookie cutter the size ofthe biscuits. I use a 3 cutter. If you dont own one of the cookie cuttersyoull be amazed at how many uses they have.

You can also use a jar lid. Ones from a mason jar work well because they have the hollow centerwhich makes the eggs release better.

Or just cut the eggs into squares. They just wont fit quite as nice as circles.

Protein packed and just 320 calories each, these satisfying breakfast sandwiches are ideal for making-ahead, freezing and popping in the microwave whenever the mood strikes.

My love for the popular fastfood breakfast sandwich began at a very young age. It all goes back to the 80s when my Aunt Paula and Uncle Randy who would stay with me and my sisters for a week while my parents vacationed somewhere warm to escape the brutal Michigan winters.

Lazy bums who loved to sleep in, we rarely made it to McDonalds in time to catch the ever-elusive breakfast menu. Lucky for us, Uncle Randy, a postal worker, is an early riser and would sneak out early to buy bags of Egg McMuffins and crispy hashbrowns that Aunt Paula would keep warm for us in the oven until we woke up.

One of the few foods that would ease morning sickness during my pregnancies, egg, ham and cheese breakfast sandwiches remain one of my biggest comforts to this day. Delicious any time of year but ideal with boneless spiral ham, I knew it was time to share this recipe when the Ohio Pork Council asked me to create a recipe to help folks utilize Easter leftovers.
