- Evenly divide ham and cheese between ovals, placing the slices on the center of the dough.

- Place the hot pockets onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or that is well greased. Cut 2-3 slits across the top of each hot pocket to allow steam to escape while baking.

Can You Make Mushroom Ham And Cheese Pockets Without Yeast
Yes! There are several ways that you can modify this recipe if you dont have yeast to make a true dough. My favorite way is to use this combination of self-rising flour and Greek yogurt:
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 1/3 cups plain Greek yogurt
Just mix that together and knead it well several times. Then roll it out just like you would a normal dough. It will be a little harder to work with than a traditional yeast-dough, doesnt look quite as pretty, and may crisp up a bit more but it still tastes delicious!
I hope you enjoy these mushroom ham and cheese pockets as much as we do at my house! Theyre perfect for an easy breakfast to fuel your day, or a quick lunch to pair with a side salad. If you try em out, be sure to leave a rating and let me know what you think.

Making The Dough For The Crust
As I mentioned above, this recipe calls for a portion of whole wheat flour, but you can use all white in the same quantity, and follow the recipe the same.
Using whole wheat makes it a healthy hot pocket alternative, but I do think the sweet, nutty flavor of the crust goes better with the rich cheese sauce and salty ham.
Start by combining the dough ingredients in a stand mixer using the dough hook on the lowest speed. Continue to run the mixer for 5 minutes until dough begins to pull away from the edges as shown below . Then, transfer the ball of dough to a greased bowl and rotate it a few times to coat in the shortening or butter. Cover, and allow to rest in a warm location for 1 hour .

How To Make A Ham And Cheese Puffed Pastry:
You will need just a few ingredients:
-puff pastry sheets or squares, or rounds- whatever you have available
-slices of your favorite ham
Preheat the oven to 400F/200C.
I had round pastry sheets this time, so it was very easy. I used 12 pieces of dough.
If you buy puff pastry sheets, then cut the puff pastry sheet in equal squares.
Place the sliced ham on one half of the circle. On top of that ham sprinkle some shredded cheese.
Use what you like I like cheese, so any cheese that melts works for me.
Fold the pastry in half to cover the ham and closed it with the help of a fork. You can brush the edges with a little bit of water, so it seals nicely.
Continue in the same way until you finish all pastry. Place the pastries on a baking tray covered with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Beat an egg and brush each pastry with it.
Bake the pastries at 400F/200C for about 30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
What do you think?
There is nothing easier to make than these pastries and everyone will love them.

Hot Pockets Contain Textured Vegetable Protein
Textured vegetable protein may not seem attractive, but if youve recently experienced a Hot Pocket , you werent put off by its inclusion. Likely, you didnt even realize it was there.
According to the How Stuff Works website, tissued vegetable protein is frequently utilized as a meat replacement or meat extender. In essence, its a soy-based protein that resembles ground beef in appearance and flavor. Its also less expensive than beef, to be precise. When firms like Nestle add textured vegetable protein to a product like Hot Pockets, its almost probably to give the impression that the product contains more beef than it does.
This feature allows them to utilize less ground beef while still retaining the flavor and texture of the meat and lowering the total cost of production. Its a clever business technique if you cant tell the difference.
