First, make sure that the cheese is made from 100% grass-fed goats. This will ensure that the cheese is high in nutrients and free of any harmful hormones or antibiotics. Second, choose a goat cheese that is aged for at least 60 days.

This will help to ensure that the cheese is easy to digest and has a pleasant, mellow flavor. Finally, avoid goat cheese that has been flavored with herbs or spices, as these can often contain additives or preservatives.

Use the paleo diet as the starting point for a healthy eating plan. Add beans, lentils, nuts, whole grains, and low-fat or nonfat dairy or other calcium sources such as dark leafy greens, tofu, and soy or almond milk. Carefully choose lean protein sources, focusing on quality over quantity.

Plate balance is the key. Some resources for finding that balance are available at ChooseMyPlate.gov, the DASH eating plan, or by talking to a registered dietitian. Fad diets go in and out of style. Why Some Paleo Followers Are Adding Dairy Back

Could you say goodbye to refined sugar, grains, legumes and dairy? A growing number of people today are going Paleo following a lifestyle thats based on the concept of eating like our Paleolithic ancestors. They believe if a caveman didnt eat it, you shouldnt either.

While many nutritionists praise the idea of eating less sugar and processed foods, theres been a growing concern that the diet plan is too restrictive and lacks essential nutrients especially calcium and vitamin D. One of the tenets of the Paleo diet is to eliminate dairy, which is one reason why it didnt stack up against other diets evaluated by U.S. News and World Report. The rankings site evaluated popular diets based on multiple factors such as easy to follow, nutritious, safe, effective for weight loss and protective against diabetes and heart disease.

One reason dairy was eliminated on the Paleo diet was the concern over allergies and lactose intolerance. Yet, true milk allergies are rare , and most people with lactose intolerance can tolerate the amount of lactose in a glass of milk when paired with a meal according to the National Institutes of Health. Another option is lactose-free milk.

Making An Excellent Paleo Cheese Substitute

In all honesty, this was a bit of a concern for me until I found this recipe for making the most delicious homemade paleo cashew cheese. While no, its not technically real cheese, its probably as close as youre going to get if youre doing a strict 100% paleo diet .

I was seriously blown away by this recipe the first time that I tried to make it. I didnt think it would work out anywhere near as well as it actually did. The reason this recipe works so well is without a doubt thanks to the incredibly smart ingredient choices used.

Cashews generally have quite a mild flavor to them, and once you soak them, they become quite easy to blend into a mixture that has a very milky consistency. The smoother you can blend your cashews, the smoother your cashew cheese will end up being.

In addition to working incredibly well for providing the texture for your cheese that youre looking for, cashews also end up adding quite a lot of nutritional value to the recipe as well.

Theyre a great source of heart healthy fatty acids, and they also offer up modest amounts of dietary fiber, protein, antioxidants, and essential vitamins and minerals. Studies have also found that cashew consumption both increases the good kind of HDL cholesterol while also reducing the bad kind of LDL cholesterol.

Giving the cashew cheese a hint of saltiness is easy enough simply add in a pinch of salt and youll be all set.

The Paleo Diet Explained For Beginners (MAKE YOUR BODY FAT DISAPPEAR) | LiveLeanTV

In short, if your ancestors could hunt or gather it, it is allowed on the paleo diet. This includes:

    • Grass-fed meat:choosing grass-fed is healthier for you, the environment and closer to what our ancestors ate.
    • Fish and seafood: choose wild-caught
    • Fresh fruits and veggies

Grass-fed meat is recommended on the paleo diet because it is leaner than meat from grain-fed animals and has more omega-3 fatty acids, the healthy fats that reduce inflammation in the body and protect your heart. A typical American diet is high in saturated and trans fats and lower in healthy poly- and monounsaturated fats, hence the paleo diet’s emphasis on grass-fed meats.

Look for chicken raised without antibiotics and try to source your meat from a local farm to learn more about how it was raised.

Choosing wild seafood over farm-caught may help boost your omega-3 intake too. That’s not always the case, but look for wild salmon and other sustainably-caught seafood when you’re eating paleo.

How A Paleo Diet Helps With Weight Loss

An added benefit of the paleo diet is the simplicity of it. The rule to eat foods a caveman would have access to makes it very easy to shop, plan, and stick with the diet.

Even when eating out, or ordering food, it is still relatively easy to differentiate between processed foods and whole foods a caveman would have access to.

Because of the simplicity of a paleo diet, it does not require participants to do too much thinking. While calories in versus calories out is the most basic rule to weight loss, a paleo diet takes a lot of thinking out of dieting. As long as you are eating whole, nutritious foods, you will probably find that weight loss will follow naturallymainly because this style of eating cuts calories automatically.

And while this certainly is not a one size fits all approach to dieting, most people will find that if they are filling their body with natural, whole, nutrient-dense foods, it will have a substantial impact on your overall weight and body composition as opposed to processed foods.

One study even suggested that your body may burn twice as many calories digesting less processed foods .

What Can You Eat On A Modified Paleo Diet

As I mentioned earlier, a traditional Paleo diet is void of all grains, dairy products, and legumes . But completely eliminating these foods can be overwhelming for most people. So, I have added in some of these foods to help make the Paleo diet easier to follow and one of the best ways obtain a healthy weight. So, what can you eat?

    • Gluten-free grains and legumesif properly prepared. While I dont recommend eating foods with gluten, I do allow for the consumption of some gluten-free grains and legumesif prepared properly. For example, if legumes are soaked then cooked, these foods will contain fewer anti-nutrients like phytic acid and lectins and will be much easier to digest. With gluten-free grains, I allow rice, millet, quinoa, and buckwheat. As for legumes, I allow lentils, beans, and fermented soy products like miso, tempeh, and natto. Grains and legumes should be consumed in moderation, however, as they can raise blood sugar and subsequently insulin levels. For example, its okay to eat a half cup of rice as long as you eat it with enough protein and fats to blunt the impending insulin response.
    • Protein. For protein sources I recommend grass-fed and/or pasture-raised beef, chicken, pork, lamb, turkey, bison, and cold water fish . These foods can be found at farmers markets, online, or at markets that contain organic foods.
