Something funny happened with the batch I made for this post. I wasnt sure if my grandkids would like it.

So I didnt bring any over when I went to watch my younger granddaughter while my daughter and her husband went out. But I told her about the dip.

Fortunately, they dont live far because our granddaughter asked if she could try it. Of course, I said yes!

So we got in my car and drove to my house . The instant she tasted it, her eyes widened, and she gave me a two-thumbs-up.

Then she said she wanted more. Of course, I said yes again. I set out a platter of crackers, vegetables, and spinach dip.

It was gone in about 10 minutes. Then, I packed some for her to take back home with her.

When a 7-year-old prefers spinach dip to dessert, you know youve done something right.

And I have to agree with her. This spinach dip is delicious.

This dip is ideal to serve a hungry family while they wait for dinner to cook. Or you can bring it to a potluck or buffet dinner.

And next time you host game night, put out some of this dip alongside this party mix, chips with these rotisserie chicken nachos, this Greek yogurt onion dip, and oven fried plantain chips. Your friends will definitely be impressed with your culinary skills.

  • Make the dip. In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic, parmesan cheese, asiago cheese, onion powder, salt and pepper. Mix until well blended. Add spinach and continue to mix until fully combined.
  • Top with cheese and bake. Transfer mixture into a small baking dish . Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top, if using. Bake in a 350 F preheated oven for 30 minutes until melted cheese is golden and bubbly. If the cheese is not as brown as you would like, turn the broiler on high for a minute or two. Keep a close eye on the broiler so that you don’t burn the cheese.

    7 minutes!

That’s all you need to make this classic spinach dip! And maybe some hungry bodies! It’s one of those recipes that you’ll want to whip up again and again!

This recipe is the best cold spinach dip I have come across because it uses cream cheese and no mayo. I also added sour cream which adds even more creaminess and some tang. Any appetizer that is easy to make in advance and can be served cold is a winner in my house. It is one of my most popular recipes for good reason.

I like to put this spinach dip in a sour dough BREAD BOWL. It looks so festive this way! Plus, you don’t have to worry about asking for your Tupperware back if you bring it to a party!

I’ll typically serve the spinach dip in a bread bowl and then add some crudites and if I’m feeling good, lots of fresh pita triangles on the side.

At at least one party chances are youve tried the store-bought chilled spinach artichoke dip, the cold kind thats jam packed with mayo. This version is served warm and melty and 100 times better!

How To Quickly Thaw Your Spinach

Best Spinach & Cream Cheese Dip in a Bread Bowl Recipe

I use FROZEN chopped spinach leaves for this recipe.

Why? Because it is super cheap AND does not require you to cook your spinach or chop it. If you used raw spinach leaves, you would need to cook them down OR chop them up before you add them to your dip. Especially if your spinach leaves are super large.

How To Make A Bread Bowl

Get yourself a nice round loaf of sour dough or pumpernickel bread. Really, any round loaf should work!

Then cut out the inside using a large serrated knife. Point the knife on a downward/inward angle and cut a circle around the top portion. Be careful not to cut too much off the top!

Then, using your hands, pull off the top. Rip out any extra breading inside the loaf. You want to create a hole. Be careful not too cut or rip out too much. All you need is a medium sized hole to fit the dip inside.

Reserve any of the bread you cut out and reuse it for dipping!

    How To Prepare Spinach

A quick and easy way to prepare spinach dip is to make sure the spinach is prepped the right way. For garden spinach:

    • Start with breaking apart the stems and add the spinach to cold water.
    • Gently swish the spinach around in the water to remove sand and dirt.
    • Carefully wash each spinach leaf. Break off tough stems.
    • Rinse again in fresh water, and place on top of a clean dish towel or paper towels. Roll up and squeeze lightly to remove moisture.
    • Coarsely chop with a large knife. Presto!

Itll look like a LOT of spinach, but it cooks down beautifully in the dip.

To use frozen spinach, defrost and drain two 10 ounce packages of frozen spinach. Add in place of fresh spinach and follow remaining instructions.

Notes And Tips For Making This Dip Recipe

    • As a reminder, always buy the best ingredients you can afford. I am referring to cheese for this recipe.
    • You can use regular spinach or regular spinach. Always chopped either type finely. If using regular spinach, make sure you cook and squeeze out all the liquid. You can use a fine-mesh strainer and a spoon to press down the cooked spinach. You can also use a cheesecloth to squeeze out the liquid. If you are using frozen and thawed spinach, also remove all the liquid if you can. . I prefer using baby spinach to save on time and get the full health benefit from this super leafy vegetable.
    • I prefer using uncooked baby spinach because 1) it does not take long to cook, 2) when chopped finely and mixed with the cheeses and then cooked, it does not releases much water, 3) it adds earthy and natural flavor to the dip.
    • If you dont have mozzarella cheese, you can substitute it with Fontina cheese or Monterey Jack Cheese.
    • No problem with making it in advance. Mix all the ingredients and store in the refrigerator. Place the mixture in a baking dish and top with extra cheese, and bake.
    • For variations: use oil-packed sundried tomatoes and jarred marinated artichokes hearts . I dont use bacon because the dip will have too much sodium.

Make this cheesy dip appetizer and make everyone drool over it. Perfect for game night and gatherings, a crowd-pleaser.

Is Spinach Dip Hard To Make

Ive seen some recipes for spinach dip that require a lot of active time, with elaborate ingredients, overcomplicated instructions, and cooking on the stovetop. And while none of that is a bad thing, I personally like to take a more hands-off approach when I want to serve a hot dip.

For this recipe, you only need to do two things: thoroughly mix all ingredients together and bake them in a dish. Really, thats it! It will probably take you longer to cut the french bread than it will to get the dip ready for serving.

Plus, this method is ideal for a party, because if the dip ever gets too cold you can pop it back in the oven for 5 minutes to bring it back to melted cheesy goodness.

    How To Serve Spinach Dip

Spinach dip is served so many different ways. One of the classic ways is in a bread bowl, but with this recipe youll probably want to leave it in the pan. Try spreading it on lightly toasted baguette slices to make Crostini!

I recommend any of the following for dipping:

    • Crackers
    • Pretzels
    • Veggies

If you have leftover dip, it also makes a wonderful spread on tortilla wraps and sandwiches or stuffed inside chicken breasts and baked!

How To Make Dill Pickle Dip

To make pickle dip, youll need cream cheese, pickles, fresh herbs, garlic powder and pickle juice. Make sure that your cream cheese is very soft so that its easy to mix everything together.

You can use any brand of pickles that you like here. I use fresh dill and green onions to accentuate the pickle flavor. Its really imperative to use fresh herbs here because the ingredient list is so short for this dip, you want to go for quality.

I like to top my pickle dip with more chopped pickles and dill so that everyone knows exactly what flavor it is! I serve this dip with a variety of dippers, like pretzels, fresh vegetables and potato chips. Other great options are baguette slices, breadsticks and crackers.

If you end up with leftover dill pickle dip, it also makes an amazing sandwich spread! This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled for a large crowd, and you can make it up to 8 hours in advance.

This dill pickle dip is absolutely a must try if youre a pickle fan. I always get so many compliments on it, your family and friends will enjoy it too!
