How Long Does A Cheese Ball Last

In general, a cheese ball will last about two weeks in the refrigerator.

If you plan on making cheese balls to freeze, go ahead and make them, wrap them up, and place in the freezer where they will stay good for about one month.

If you have a leftover cheese ball thats been sitting in the refrigerator that youd like to freeze and save for later, consider the following:

  • Ingredients. A basic cheese ball will be fine for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator before being placed in the freezer but say your cheese ball has tuna or salmon in it, these ingredients will shorten the amount of time a cheese ball will be good for.
  • Aroma and texture. Smell the cheese ball and if it doesnt smell right it may need to be thrown out. Look at the cheese ball and make sure there is no mold on it. Lastly, if the cheese ball is tasting a little off, dont chance it. Go ahead and discard the cheese ball.

Remember, cheese balls shouldnt be left out for more than two hours at a party of a gathering, as sitting out at room temperature for too long can cause harmful microorganisms to grow that can cause sickness.

Fry The Battered Cheese

Cheese Ball Recipe

Once you have completely coated the cheese with the batter, you are now ready to deep fry the cheese.1. With the tongs, lightly grab one of the pieces of battered cheese. 2. While continuing to hold the cheese with the tongs, slowly dip the cheese into the hot oil–Important: Holding the cheese while you fry it the first time is necessary so you can easily pull out the cheese, because there is not enough batter on it yet to keep it from oozing all over the oil.3. After no more than 5 seconds, remove the cheese from the oil.–Note: The batter may seem to have melted away when you take the cheese out of the oil the first time. This is normal, and explains why one coating and frying is not enough.

What Is Dried Beef

Cooking – How to make cheese balls

Dried beef, sometimes also called chipped beef is pressed, dried and salted meat that has been thinly sliced.

You find it in the canned meats aisle which sounds heinous but just breathe through it. Dried beef is good, really good.

Dried beef is super salty. Some people suggest rinsing the slices. I am far too lazy for that.

Be sure to plan ahead the first time you make this recipe as it can be difficult to find dried beef. Its not available on Amazon Fresh and its not at my local Ralphs store.

I usually pick it up from Albertsons and grab an extra jar to keep in the pantry since there are several recipes that I love that call for it.

Find it in the canned meat aisle .

So make sure you taste your cheese ball mixture before adding any additional salt.

As with all of my recipes, I love to encourage you to add other ingredients that you may like. This would have been super tasty with some black pepper and bacon bits too.

Next time Im going to add a little onion salt. Ive been adding it to everything lately and think it adds so much flavor!

How To Soften Cream Cheese

To the block of cream cheese, add in 1.5 cups of additional cheese. This is where you get to have some fun! Some great cheeses to add are:

  • Mozzarella
  • Goat Cheese
  • Cream Cheese/Greek yogurt mixture

Once the cheeses are mixed in, all you need is a little spice. Basic salt and pepper are really all you need with your cheeses, but I love a hint of garlic powder and a little onion to break up the richness of the cheeses.

I also like to add in some Worcestershire sauce, some Tabasco, ad a hint of lemon juice to brighten it up. If you are making a sweet cheeseball I would leave out the savory spices and add a little vanilla extract, sugar, or honey.

The Best Cheese Ball Recipe

HOW TO MAKE A CLASSIC CHEESE BALL {Sweet or Savory!}

Growing up my mom always made a cheeseball around the holidays and we would polish it off in no time. Not much has changed because now Im doing the same thing for my family.

This is my go-to cheese ball recipe. Its nothing fancy and far cheaper than creating some extravagant cheese board.

Just good old fashioned comfort food with the classic cheddar cheese and cream cheese.

In this version of mine I also like to add sour cream for extra creaminess and for a softer texture, then I like to add garlic powder, onion powder and a bit of black pepper for flavor.

Id recommend skipping the salt though, I know normally salt and pepper just go together but theres already plenty in the ingredients and the crackers youll be serving it with.

Tips For Making A Cheese Ball Recipe

  • The right combination of cheeses is what makes a cheese ball great. This recipe has a unique and magical combination of flavors and cheeses.
  • A cheese ball should be made a head of time. It needs time to set up and chill and the flavors will improve as it sits in the fridge.
  • Be sure to wrap the cheese ball up tightly in plastic wrap while storing in the fridge. I often wrap it in aluminum foil too to make sure it is air tight. Air will dry out the cheese ball.
  • Add your outer coating right before serving. I like to use crushed almonds.
  • Allow the cheese ball to sit at room temperature for a bit before serving. It will make it easier to spread on your crackers.
