The first Sunday of the month we transform our kids arcade and play area into sensitive-friendly fun centers, allowing kids on the spectrum to enjoy a play place with less crowding, dimmed lighting, and no music or performances. They still get to enjoy all our games, rides and food options but in an environment they feel comfortable in.

There are a lot of things people go to Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant to do. Okay, there are really only a couple: play games and eat. But one thing people usually don’t go to Chuck E. Cheese’s to do is to shoot up in the bathroom. Tell that to two guys in California, though, who decided to skip the Skee Ball and go smoke some heroin in the men’s room. So now the world knows that they not only have a drug problem, but that they are total morons as well.

It’s Basically Gambling For Kids

Chuck E. Cheese

As you get older, you start seeing arcades with tickets as what they are: gateways into casinos and potential gambling addiction. This is the first instance that I learned that the house will always win. I never needed to crap out at a casino to learn that, because I learned it playing for tickets at Chuck E. Cheese’s. It takes a really long time for kids to learn that. I know some adults who still haven’t learned it. After all, casinos are still a thing. To add insult to injury, the prizes really aren’t that great. Even if you amass enough tickets to win something big, like an X-box, a video game, or a remote control toy car, you’ll have spent way more money to earn the tickets to get it there than you would have if you’d actually bought the prize outright. You might as well just go down to your local discount store and buy your prize there than try and earn tickets to get it at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Basically, the best way to earn a small fortune here is the same as how you’d earn it at a casino: simply start out with a large fortune.

Chuck E Cheese Alcohol A Bad Mix Say Protesters

Debbie Sudano and Jackie Aburn say that rides, games, children, Chuck E. Cheese and alcohol don’t mix.

They appeared before the Baltimore County liquor board yesterday, hoping to persuade the panel not to renew the beer and wine license of the popular Chuck E. Cheese family restaurant in Essex.

Restaurant officials said they didn’t know what all the fuss was about, but they voluntarily agreed to suspend alcohol sales for 120 days to give residents time to express their opinions.

Chuck E. Cheese, a national chain based in the Dallas area, offers its young clientele games, rides, pizza and sandwiches. Its restaurants are popular sites for children’s birthday parties, which is what bothered the protesters.

“Most parents aren’t going to serve alcohol at parties at home for their young children. I know I don’t,” Mrs. Sudano told the liquor board. “So why must children and parents who want to have birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese be subjected to alcohol around them?”

Mrs. Sudano, who lives nearby and brought petitions with several hundred signatures from concerned parents, said she took her children to Chuck E. Cheese but decided not to return when she learned the restaurant served alcohol.

Richard T. Huston, executive vice president of ShowBiz Pizza Time Inc., Chuck E. Cheese’s parent company, volunteered to suspend the sale of alcohol for 120 days, beginning May 1, to allow time to survey residents.

The protesters wanted nothing short of a revoked license.

Granny Gets Beat Up At Kid’s Birthday Party

Chuck E. Cheese Liquor License

Carol Brown just wanted to go to her grandkid’s birthday party. She attended three-year-old Robert Olchanski’s birthday party at a Chuck E. Cheese’s location in Southgate California, but there was no way to know that it would turn out so wrong.

It all started when the Olchanski party had a disagreement with a neighboring family about swearing, and when they politely asked them to stop, a riot broke out. “It got into a confrontation where they came across at our table and a number of us were assaulted and the table flipped and I ended up underneath of that.” she said. She was hurt so badly that she was sent to the hospital.

While she doesn’t believe that alcohol played a part in the brawl, Chuck E. Cheese’s does serve beer to adults. As we all know, drunk adults and hyperactive kids hopped up on sugar and soda do not mix well. “I don’t think it was alcohol-related. I think it was just their particular demeanor.” she’d said. Honestly, I disagree, but then again I wasn’t there.

No word was available about whether or not she had something against kids, mice, or pizza.

Liquor License Held By Chuck E Cheese’s In Amherst Under Scrutiny

Town police have logged 123 calls over the past three years to the Chuck E. Cheese’s location on Harlem Road in Amherst.

The state Liquor Authority has launched an investigation into the latest outbreaks of violence at the Chuck E. Cheese’s in Amherst as a member of the state Assembly wants to bar the sale of alcohol there.

Assemblyman Raymond Walter has joined Amherst Supervisor Brian J. Kulpa in asking the authority to revoke the venue’s license to sell beer and wine.

“A liquor license is a privilege,” said Walter, an Amherst Republican whose district includes the Chuck E. Cheese’s on Harlem Road.

The authority is looking into Saturday’s fight between two employees, other previous violent encounters and the high volume of police calls to the venue, said William Crowley, a spokesman for the agency. Authority officials also have requested a meeting with executives from CEC Entertainment, which operates Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurants here and across the country.

“There are a number of recent incidents,” Crowley said. “They’re obviously on our radar now.”

A CEC representative did not respond to a request for comment Thursday. Following Saturday’s incident, which sent a teenage employee to Oishei Children’s Hospital, the company issued a statement saying, in part, “The safety of our guests and employees is our number one priority and we will continue to work closely with the community to ensure a safe environment for families.

“Don’t they read the paper?” she asked.

New Rules For Arcade Games Of Skill

Arcade games such as skee-ball, that issue tickets or tokens and games that snag prizes such as the claw machine, are now regulated by the Ohio Casino Control Commission. There are 3 categories of such skill games.

  • Category A games award no prizes other than free replays. Pinball, Pac-Man, and many of your standard arcade games fall into this category
  • Category B games award prizes from within the machine. The crane and claw machines are examples
  • Category C games are anything not in category A or B, typically where players redeem tickets, tokens, or vouchers to claim a prize. Chuck E Cheese and Dave & Busters would fall into this category.

Category B and C operators must now register with the OCCC. Failure to do so by August may result in penalties. Licenses and fees are based upon the type of game and who owns and operates them. The OCCC will maintain a database of approved games.

Prizes cant exceed $10 in any single play. However, you are permitted to combine tickets, tokens, or vouchers to collect a prize greater than $10. Prizes also cannot be cash, gift cards, lottery tickets, bingo or instant bingo, tobacco, firearms, alcohol, or plays on games of chance .

A lawsuit has been filed in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas challenging whether or not the OCCC exceeded its authority by issuing these new rules.

The Chuck E Cheese Survival Guide For Adults

Matt Gross, Bon Appetit

When I read the news last week that Chuck E. Cheeses had been bought for $950 million by an affiliate of the Apollo Management Group, it triggered a flood of memories: skee ball, prize tickets, animatronic mammals, and uninspiring pizza. Thing is, I wasnt remembering my own childhood I was remembering my trip with my wife, our two daughters, our friends, and their two kids to a Chuck E. Cheeses branch in exurban Pennsylvania, at the end of December 2013.

And amazingly, it wasnt a nightmare! In fact, I would not even mind going back there, now that I know precisely what to expect:

1. Youre not there for the food. I cant imagine anyone at Chuck E. Cheese will be offended if I say that their pizza is not great. Its not inedible, of course. I mean, its pizza! So stop worrying that it doesnt measure up to the $25-per-pie artisanal Neapolitan joint. Enjoy it for what it is and, like me, bring along a little packet of good hot pepper flakes, plus maybe a nub of pecorino romano and a tiny microplane grater.

2. Not all Chuck E. Cheeses serve beer. Like, say, that one in exurban Pennsylvania. Next time, Ill pack a small flask not of whiskey but of gentler, pizza-friendly liqueurs, like a half-and-half blend of Campari and sweet vermouth, which might go well with a bit of Sprite from the soda fountain. And be smart: If one parent has to drive home, that parent drinks root beer.

It Really Is A Kind Of Earthly Paradise

Helen Sessions / Alamy Stock Photo

In one of his best essays, George Orwell described his ideal pub as a place only “two minutes from a bus stop” where people go “for conversation as much as for the beer,” with a “florid ceiling stained dark yellow by tobacco-smoke” and “swings and a chute for the children.” Sounds like a dream, right?

Alas, at the end of the piece the great man was forced to admit that no real-life public house met all of his exacting requirements. While the world is in many ways a much nastier place than it was when Orwell was writing for The Listener, I am happy to report that I have found his dream bar. It’s called Chuck E. Cheese’s.

It’s true that you can’t actually smoke inside anymore, but otherwise the Irving, Texas-headquartered family pizza chain is the genuine article. It is, simply put, the best place to have a few beers with your spouse while your kids scream their heads off amid the glittering jeweled lights of the arcade games and float leisurely in soft seas of many-colored plastic balls, while the fumes of pizza and draft Budweiser waft upward toward the heavens.

It really is a kind of earthly paradise.
